Introduction
• Now every computer and embedded manufacturers are concentrating on Flash drives we are going to design a gadget which will copy the files from exist floppy disks and optical disks with good transfer rate and compatible.
• We are proposing SATA(Serial Advanced Technology Attachment), which will replace the exist gadget PATA(Parallel Advanced Technology Attachment) used for the same purpose with good metrics

• Existing devices like Parallel ATA are used in consumer desktop and laptop computers, and in embedded applications
• PATA remains widely used in industrial and embedded applications that use CompactFlash storage.
• Parallel ATA (the redesignation for the legacy ATA specifications) used a 16-bit wide data bus with many additional support and control signals, all operating at much lower frequency

• Now we are designing SATA with the same speed as PATA with the lower cost than PATA.
• But for every 12 months the speed will increase by 2 times and we will develop Logic analyzers and bus analyzers which collect, analyze, decode, and store rapidly-changing signals and waveforms
• Now target on Desktops manufacturer• After 18 months spread to Laptops and Embedded
system manufacturers.• Decrease in cost

• Add support for future versions of USB and SATA
• Low power versions capable of running long time on battery power
• Unification of all controllers onto a single die
microprocessor/controller capable of handling multiple protocols
• Add support for newer optical disc formats like Blueray(BD),
HD-DVD(high Density)
• Add support to other filesystems like NTFS, ext etc.., for handling
larger les especially in cases like HD-DVD and BD

port, USB-SATA bridge and Optical Disk Drive.
• Optical Disk drive considered to provide SATA output.
USB-SATA bridge interfaces SATA to USB protocol with a controller taking care of matching data rates.
• USB controller with a small kernel with the USB driver loaded to take care of I/O to flash drives.

• Components
• USB I/F consists of the analog front-end and packet decoder usedto connect the controller to the host device
• Similarly SATA I/F consists of front-end to connect to either harddisk drives or optical disk drives
• Controller is used to match the data rates and adjust according tothe host rate selection
• Memory is used both as buffer and as storage of instructions forcontroller to decode USB data and format it into SATA packetsand vice versa

SATA Topology
• SATA uses a point-to-point architecture. The physical connection between a controller and a storage device is not shared among other controllers and storage devices. SATA defines multipliers, which allows a single SATA controller to drive multiple storage devices. The multiplier performs the function of a hub; the controller and each storage device is connected to the hub.
