APR 6TH TO
APR 16TH 2015
$3449 PER PERSON /
twin occupancy LAND ONLY
Thank you for your interest in our ninth tour to Britain April 6th – 16th 2015. Welcome to those who will be joining us for the first time this year, and a warm “welcome back” to our friends who were with us on one of our previous tours. As always, we have taken the suggestions of our past guests and wherever possible have incorporated them into the tour. We have been arranging quality escorted group tours for more than twenty years and have received a lot of very positive feedback from our previous clients. Our goal is to ensure all of our guests are well looked after, and happy with every aspect of our tours. We are thrilled that Neville MacKay will be returning again as our tour host. Once you meet Neville you will see why he is such a popular guy. Our brilliant tour manager in the UK,- Marilyn ,will also be back with us once again. A dynamite team whose goal is to make sure you get to see and experience as much as possible, and thoroughly enjoy every aspect of your hard earned vacation. Our April 2015 tour includes London, Windsor, Oxford, Bampton/Highclere, Stratford-Upon-Avon, Chester, Liverpool and Manchester. The picturesque villages of Bampton and Highclere are where the hugely popular Downton Abbey series is filmed, and on this tour we have our first ever visit inside Highclere Castle aka- Downton Abbey. This is a very special visit, as with their filming schedule, it is extremely hard to secure group admission into the actual “Downton Abbey.” In addition to actually being inside the famous “Abbey”,we will also see many of the local sites used in the filming of the show. Also included is our private tour of the new inside and outside sets of Coronation Street at Media City. On several recent tours we were thrilled to see some actual filming and meet some of the current Coronation Street stars. What and who we see is dependent upon what the studios schedule is at the time of our visit. Since they don’t know themselves until two weeks out, we can never guarantee what our visit will include, but they have never disappointed us, and have gone out of their way to ensure we get to see as much as possible. On our visit in October 2014, not only did we meet many of the current stars, but our group got to participate in the filming of a special documentary about Barbara Knox – commemorating her 50 years as “Rita” on the show. We will also be once again including the highly popular tour of the locations in and around Manchester used in the filming of many episodes. Also brand new this year is the inclusion of a stop in the lovely city of Oxford, home of the University of Oxford –the oldest university in the English-speaking world and one of the most famous and prestigious higher education institutions in the world. Shakespeare’s Stratford-Upon-Avon was extremely popular with our 2014 tour group, and our two night stop here will provide lots of opportunity to enjoy the serenity and local sights. At the request of previous guests, we will once again be allowing more time in Liverpool. The home of the Fab Four- The Beatles. Our two night stay here gives folks the chance to actually go out on the town and perhaps enjoy a night at the famous Cavern Club ! Our first two tours provided our guests with one of the only private backstage tours of the Coronation Street sets and a meeting with one of the actors. Seven years ago due to the integrity of our tours, Granada Studios permitted us to be on the set during filming, and our group had a chance to have some great chats with a few different actors. This is a special privilege. On recent tours we have met well over 20 different actors ….and the word “gobsmacked” is about as close as we can come to describing the studios experience. We receive hundreds of emails each year from people all over the world who ask if they can just be part of our group for the day in Manchester so they too can have access to the inside sets. Unfortunately, we can’t permit this and reserve this thrill for those special people who travel with us on one of our tours.
We require at least 25 passengers on this tour in order for the tour to go, so please don’t wait to see how many others have booked before sending in your booking, as if everyone did this the tour would most definitely have to be cancelled. Should we not have sufficient numbers, your full deposit will be returned to you. Please book right away so that we will have the numbers we need to guarantee the departure early. The sooner we can guarantee the departure, the sooner we can confirm all the details to you, such as the names of the hotels where we will be staying. We can’t hold your spot without your deposit and booking form. The deposit required is $750 per person. We do accept Mastercard and Visa , however our margins are very slim and if you wish to process your payments on your credit card, we have no choice but to charge a 3.5% processing fee, as that is what it costs us. We are happy to accept personal cheques, bank drafts, money orders or bank transfers with no additional fees. All payments are payable to Coronation Travel. We do require that each and every tour participant be fully covered with out of the country emergency medical insurance. If you already have that through a private or employee insurance plan, we just require proof of coverage with your booking form. Although many plans cover out of the country medical coverage, we highly recommend that you purchase additional trip cancellation insurance. This insurance will cover the total cost of your trip in the unlikely event that you have to cancel for a medical emergency. A total package insurance plan is the best coverage for combined emergency medical and trip cancellation. Please contact us for rates based on your age and individual needs. Please note that insurance companies do not cover pre-existing conditions. Airlines are radically changing their policies when it comes to group bookings. They no longer offer substantial reductions on airfare to large groups, preferring to sell the lower airfares on an individual basis. For that reason and the fact that many people have airmiles and rewards that they would like to use for their airfare, and we have people coming from all across the country on this tour, our tour does not include airfare. Everyone will meet at our London hotel, late afternoon on April 6th, 2015, where we will have a welcome cocktail reception. You are free to choose your own air carrier and look for the best individual fare from your city. You can also choose to travel to the UK a few days earlier or stay a few days later. Please note that the tour starts on April 6th in London, and ends on April 16th in Manchester. Please arrange your airfare to arrive in London throughout the morning or early afternoon of April 6th, 2015, and depart from Manchester the morning or afternoon of April 16th, 2015. Please do not book your airfare until we have sufficient numbers to guarantee the departure, which is 25 people. As soon as we reach this number we will notify you so that you can look for the best possible airfare. We will be happy to assist you with this if you would like. We can assist you with pre and post tour hotel arrangements. If you are a single traveller and would like to travel with someone else to London and back from Manchester, please just let us know and we will be happy to put you in touch with a fellow traveller. If you are travelling on your own, and would like to share accommodation with another person in order to avoid the single supplement, we often have single travellers and will put you in touch with another single traveller if available. We are really looking forward to having you join us ! Kindest regards,

dinner is planned for 7:30PM on most days. You will be advised daily of any changes.
April 6th,Mon: WELCOME TO LONDON Plan your flights to arrive in London by early afternoon on April 6th, 2015. Make your
way to our London Hotel ( which will be advised closer to departure) You will meet your fellow travellers, your Coronation Travel Tour Host Neville MacKay and our Tour Manager Marilyn Parker MacKay at a welcome reception in the hotel. Neville and/or Marilyn will be available in the hotel lobby to greet you and give you directions to the reception. Your tour name badge will be given to you at the reception. Please do try and wear it throughout the tour, as it helps our tour manager to keep track of everyone along the way ! Neville and Marilyn will be with us throughout the tour, and it won’t take you very long to get to know and enjoy their personalities and professionalism. We suggest spending some time after you arrive in London getting acquainted with this bustling city which will be your home for the next 3 nights. Please don’t go for a nap, as you will then be up half the night and be tired the next day. Plan to do a bit of browsing, have a bite of lunch, and an early supper, and you should be right as rain the next morning ! The hotel will keep your luggage in the secure luggage area for you until your room is ready, and will be very happy to assist you with maps and directions to some local sites close to the hotel. Some rooms may be ready a bit earlier, but please don’t expect to be able to check in much before 2PM. As you no doubt will want to crawl into bed early tonight, no group dinner is planned, but please don’t miss the reception! (SR)
Day 02
Apr.7th, Tue: LONDON
After a hearty full English breakfast at our hotel, we get an early start for a full day of
London sightseeing with our expert London guide including all the main sites like the
Houses of Parliament and Big Ben along the River Thames, Buckingham Palace (and if
we’re lucky see the Changing of the Guard). Our tour this morning includes entrance to
the Tower of London, with its magnificent Crown Jewels, Westminster Abbey , the
1000 year old gothic coronation church, a treasure house of paintings and stained glass,
and housing the monuments and tombs of Britain’s legendary kings and queens
alongside many famous men and women whose stories are etched into the history of
Britain, and St.Paul’s Cathedral, London’s leading church ,designed by the architect Sir Christopher
Wren and whose construction was overseen by 5 monarchs determined that the cathedral be as beautiful
and imposing as their private palaces. Many important events and celebrations have taken place at St.
Paul’s including the funeral of Winston Churchill, the Jubilee Celebrations for Queen Victoria, peace services
marking the end of the first and second world wars , and of course the wedding of Charles, Prince of Wales
to Lady Diana Spencer. We have a lot of ground to cover today to ensure you get to see as
much as possible, so please stick with the group. Time will be allowed at each stop to
take photos and purchase some souvenirs. Some of the souvenir shops tend to be quite
busy at times, with lengthy queues, so please do try and complete your shopping as
quickly as possible in order to not get separated from the group or hold up the coach.
This evening join Tour Host Neville and Tour Manager Marilyn in the hotel dining room
for our first group dinner together. You won’t want to miss it, as you never know what
treats and entertainment Neville has up his sleeve! (B,D)
Day 3
Apr 08th , Wed : LONDON
After a sumptuous full breakfast you have the day entirely free to explore on your own.
Perhaps you will opt for a day in fashionable Soho or a trip to Harrods. A bird’s eye view
from The London Eye , a trip to famous Madame Tussaud’s, a leisurely day in Covent
Garden, or a narrated lunch cruise on the River Thames are all excellent ways to enjoy
your day. A day trip to the Cotswalds, or Stonehenge and Bath may be your pleasure. Or
possibly to Greenwich – home of Greenwich Mean Time and the Meridian Line. Visit the
National Maritime Museum here and The Royal Observatory, and Christopher Wren’s
Old Royal Naval College. We can help you book an optional day tour. Perhaps you might
enjoy the theatre this evening. Please let us know and we will be happy to send you a
current list of available shows and their prices a little closer to departure. Some of the
long running popular London shows include Les Miserables, The Lion King, Mousetrap,
Mamma Mia, The Phantom of the Opera, Jersey Boys, and the Beatles tribute… Let It Be.
Expect to pay in the $100-$125 per person range for decent tickets. In order to make
sure we do not infringe upon your day in London, dinner this evening will be on your
own. (B)
Day 04
Apr 09, Thu : LONDON - WINDSOR - OXFORD
After breakfast at the hotel, we bid farewell to London town this morning and
head off on a short drive to Windsor, where we will visit Windsor Castle , Queen
Elizabeth’s preferred weekend home. After our visit to the
castle, we will have some time in Windsor to poke around in the shops, and have
a bite to eat for lunch before heading off to Oxford.
We will have a tour of the city known worldwide as the home of Oxford
University, the oldest university in the English speaking world. ‘The University is made up
from a variety of institutions, including 38 constituent colleges and a full range of academic departments which are
organised into four Divisions… Being a city university, it does not have a main campus; instead, all the buildings and
facilities are scattered throughout the metropolitan centre. Oxford is the home of several notable scholarships, including
the Rhodes Scholarship which has brought graduate students to read at the university for more than a century. Oxford
has educated many notable alumni, including 27 Nobel laureates (58 total affiliations), 26 British Prime Ministers (most
recently David Cameron) and many foreign heads of state.’
Many of the Harry Potters Hogwart's school scenes were filmed at Oxford University's Christ Church College. In several of
the films, Oxford provided Hogwart's staircase notably in the first film where Professor McGonagall greets the
schoolchildren upon their arrival. Oxford also provided the Great Hall on which Hogwart's dining room was modelled and
the Library which provided the scenes for Hogwart's infirmary and Ron’s dancing lesson with Professor McGonagall.
After our tour of Oxford ,we will check in to our hotel in this beautiful city for the
night, and enjoy a lovely dinner together in the hotel. ( B,D)
Day 05
Apr 10, Fri: OXFORD – BAMPTON/HIGHCLERE CASTLE - STRATFORD-UPON-AVON
After breakfast in our hotel, we drive to the lovely villages of Bampton and Highclere in
the Oxfordshire Cotswolds where we will visit Highclere Castle, the home of the hugely
popular Edwardian period TV Drama “Downton Abbey”. Here we will have access to the
magnificent rooms in the castle used in the filming of the show, as well as a tour of the
gardens. We will also have an opportunity to see some of the other filming locations
used in the drama in the village of Bampton.
Late afternoon we will drive for about an hour to Shakespeare’s Stratford-Upon-Avon
where we will check in to our hotel. After our dinner enjoy a stroll through this
picturesque town.Watch the swans on the River Avon and the many
narrowboats as they make their way through several locks- (a popular way to vacation
along the intricate canals.) Perhaps you might finish off the day by taking part in one of
the popular evening ghost walks about the town. (B,D )
Day 06
Apr 11, Sat : STRATFORD-UPON-AVON
This morning after breakfast at our hotel, we will enjoy an introductory sight-seeing tour
of Shakespeare’s town. After our morning coach tour, you will have the opportunity to
decide how you wish to spend the rest of your day. Perhaps you will want to visit Anne
Hathaway’s cottage , or the Butterfly Farm ( the largest in Europe) or row your
sweetheart along the River Avon in a hired boat. This evening would be a perfect time
to take in a play at the Royal Shakespeare or Swan Theatre. Popular plays include
Hamlet, The Winter’s Tale, As You Like It, MacBeth, A Midsummer’s Night Dream, and
many others. As many will probably opt for the theatre this evening, dinner will be on
your own. ( B)
Day 7
Apr 12, Sun: STRATFORD-UPON-AVON – CHESTER – LIVERPOOL
After breakfast in the hotel, we travel north to our next stop in Chester, arriving late
morning. You will have the entire afternoon to enjoy lunch and then browse in this
delightful city. Make sure you take in the famous 700 year old Rows – a two tiered
shopping gallery dating back to the middle ages, and the oldest shopping façade in
England. See the Eastgate Clock ,built to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee in
1897 . It is the most photographed clock in England after Big Ben. Grosvenor Park has a
delightful miniature railway. Chester is the only city in Britain to retain a complete circuit
of defensive walls. You can download a copy of the Chester Tourist Guide at the
following link.

Mini-Guide-2013
We will depart Chester late afternoon for a short 40 minute drive to Liverpool, our home
for the next two nights. Dinner tonight will be shared with your fellow travelers at the
hotel. (B,D)
Day 08
Apr 13, Mon: LIVERPOOL
Our day begins after breakfast at our hotel, with a wonderful and very informative full
sightseeing tour of Liverpool. You will get to see so many of the local sites linked to the
famous four Beatles, and will be thrilled with some of the personal stories about the
“Fab Four” shared by our local guide. We visit the present day Cavern Club , ( lots of
great souvenirs here ) get to see some of the childhood homes of the Beatles,
Strawberry Field , Penny Lane, the statue of Eleanor Rigby dedicated to all the lonely
people, the 18 ft. European Peace Monument in Chavasse Park dedicated to the
memory of John Lennon , and then we visit The Beatles Story. This award winning
experience is an atmospheric journey into the life, times, culture and music of the
Beatles. Not only does your admission cover the Albert Dock Beatles Story venue, but
also includes admission to the new Pier Head Beatles Story located at the Mersey
Ferry Terminal ( there is a shuttle service available or you can opt to walk the 10
minutes ) The Pier Head location now permanently houses The Beatles Hidden Gallery. A series of 38 black and white photos which photographer Paul Berriff took of the Beatles during 1963/ 64
just months before Beatlemania struck, and were forgotten in his attic for nearly 50 years. The images show
the four in unguarded moments while rehearsing and relaxing, and in late August 2010 were placed on
permanent display in the Pier Head Beatles Story location.
For those not interested in the Beatles Story, a visit to the International Slavery
Museum or the Merseyside Maritime Museum might be of interest. There will be
plenty of time to wander through the shops and boutiques in the Albert Dock area and
pick up some souvenirs. Once we finish the Beatles Story tour and some time to browse
the Albert Dock area, you can decide to hop back on our coach to the hotel, or spend
some more time poking about in the Albert Dock area, as we have purposely not
included dinner this evening so you will not feel rushed. You might want to take the
‘Ferry Cross The Mersey’ as the song says, ( and they do play the song) then grab a cab
or bus and head back over to the Cavern Club on Mathew Street for a pub style dinner
and listen to up and coming new bands from late afternoon through until late evening.
The Cavern Club is the cradle of British pop music, the place where the Beatles musical identity was formed. Today's
Cavern is a thriving live music destination and one of Liverpool’s top places to visit. The three venues - the Cavern Club,
Cavern Live Lounge and the Cavern Pub - showcase not only the incredible legacy of The Beatles, but also new up and
coming bands and established artists. Discover for yourself the evocative spirit of this legendary venue and experience the
unique and powerful Cavern sound performed live on stage every afternoon till late in the evening.
If shopping is your pleasure, the impressive LIVERPOOL 1 shopping centre is just a 5-10
minute walk from the Albert Dock area. It is open until 7PM. With over 170 shops,
Liverpool 1, is the largest open air shopping centre in the United Kingdom. Whatever
you choose to do, we know you will thoroughly enjoy your time in Liverpool. ( B)
Day 09 Apr 14,Tue: LIVERPOOL - MANCHESTER
We leave Liverpool right after breakfast for the short drive to Manchester where we will
meet up with our specialist guide Mark, the former manager of Roy Barraclough, “our
Alec Gilroy”, as he gives us a personally guided tour of many of the sites in and around
Manchester used in the filming of Coronation Street episodes. We get to see the Red
Rec, Weatherfield Town Hall, the canal where Richard Hillman met his demise, the
church where many Corrie weddings have taken place, the original rooftops that
provide the opening scenes for the show, and lots more. Mark always tries to add some
new locations each year to his tour for us, and it has been a favourite with our past
groups, so don’t forget your camera! You will have a bit of free time later in the
afternoon after the tour concludes, before the group meets for dinner at the hotel. Take
a short jaunt to the Trafford Shopping Centre to do some last minute shopping as
tomorrow is the grand finale of our tour! ( B,D)
Day 10
Apr 15, Wed: MANCHESTER – The Grand Finale!
Today we immerse ourselves into CORONATION STREET as we visit the new inside and
outside sets of Coronation Street at Media City in Salford Quays. Marilyn will let you
know the evening before what time we will be going to the studios. It has traditionally
been set for 1PM, however it is always dependent upon their filming schedule, and they
may have to schedule a morning visit. But not to worry, you will be there on this day!
Coronation Street began broadcasting on December 9, 1960 and is the longest running
“soap opera” in the world. We visit both the inside and outside sets of “the street”,
and will hopefully be able to see actual filming (depending on the day’s schedule) As
ITV does not know what will be taking place until approximately two weeks in advance,
we can never guarantee, but many of our tours were thrilled to have been present on
the set during filming. Our past seven tours have had the opportunity to meet not just
one, but “many” of the current actors, and pose for some photos and a brief chat.
“Gobsmacked” usually describes the emotions of our guests on this day, fulfilling the
dream of die-hard Coronation Street fans!
You will have some free time today either before or after our studios visit to relax and
take in the rest of Manchester, pick up some last minute souvenirs, and spend some last
hours with your new friends. This evening we will have our farewell dinner at the hotel
which will be a special evening you won’t want to miss.
Before you turn in for the night make sure you pack your bags. Please let Marilyn and
Neville know your plans for the morning and if you would like to share a taxi with
someone else going to the airport or train station later the following morning. One early
morning coach transfer will be made to the Manchester airport for anyone wishing to
avail of it. (B,SD)
Day 11
Apr 16, Thu: MANCHESTER – CANADA or Continue With Your Own Itinerary
Breakfast will be available early this morning at the hotel ( or a boxed breakfast if you
prefer-before you set off on your own or head to the airport to begin your flight home.)
Please make sure you book your return airfare from Manchester to your destination
city. Whatever your plans, we know you will come away from this tour having seen a
great deal, with many new friends, and will be able to say that you walked the new
“Coronation Street Cobbles”, were in Audrey’s Salon and the Kabin, leaned over the bar
at the Rovers Return…and every time you watch the show you will be reminded that
YOU WERE THERE !!! (B)
Please note some alterations in dates or times and itinerary changes may have to be made due to traffic or road
conditions, flight delays, weather and /or circumstances beyond our control. While Granada/ITV Studios has scheduled our
Coronation Street visit for Apr 15th2015, slight modifications may have to be made in the itinerary at the request of
Granada/ITV studios should they have circumstances occur which will not permit our visit at the time scheduled. In the
nine year history of this tour, that has never occurred, and we will endeavour to adhere to the itinerary as presented.
Coronation Travel and its travel partners, hosts and managers, Special Travel International , and Granada Studios/ITV will
not be liable for any necessary changes resulting from any of the above circumstances.
