Class 1 Very small rough areas, might require slight maneuvering.

(Skill level: very basic)

Class 2Some rough water, maybe some rocks, might require some

Class 3 Whitewater, small waves, maybe a small drop, but no considerable

danger. May require significant maneuvering.

Class 4 Whitewater, medium waves, maybe rocks, maybe a

considerable drop, sharp maneuvers may be needed.

Class 5 Whitewater, large waves, large volume, possibility of large rocks and

hazards, possibility of a large drop, requires precise maneuvering.

Class 6 Rapids are considered to be so dangerous that they

Cocos Island – Costarican National Park

Cocos Island was declared a Costa Rican National Park by means of Executive Decree in 1978 . Cocos Island National Park was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997. Cocos Island was named one of the best 10 scuba diving spots in the world by PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) and a "must do" according to diving experts. The only persons allowed to live on Cocos Island are Costa Rican Park Rangers, who have established two encampments, including one at English Bay. Tourists and ship crew members are allowed ashore only with permission of island rangers, and are not permitted to camp, stay overnight or collect any flora, fauna or minerals from the island.
