Last Contagion Figures

• October 08: 355,151 total new cases (+1.0%), vs 350,360 the previous day and 317,400 7-day average. Now con-firmed 36,474,886 cases worldwide (213 countries and territories) vs 34,253,087 cases last week.

• 1,061,436 people have died (2.9% of confirmed cases) and 27,153,911 have recovered (74.4%).

• Europe: 5,152,740 cases; 7-day average growth of 81,567. USA: 7,605,873 cases; 7-day average growth of 46,869.

• Brazil: 5,029,539 cases, 7-day average growth of 25,759. India: 6,903,812 cases, 7-day average growth of 73,122.

• The last few days saw an increase in daily new cases, with around 350,000 new infections. For the first time since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 100,000 new cases has been recorded in Europe on October 8.

• US President Donald Trump was discharged from hospital on Monday.

• According to the WHO, about 10% of the global population may have been infected with the virus.

• Paris and four more cities in France have been placed on maximum Covid-19 alert, ordering the closure of all bars and restaurants, and making face masks compulsory in enclosed public spaces.

• China has officially signed an agreement to join the WHO-backed COVAX facility, the project to ensure poorer coun-tries have access to vaccines.

• Italy has made it mandatory to wear face masks in outdoor spaces across the country.
