Craniofacial surgeryCraniofacial surgery is a sort of plastic surgery that deals with the amendment and reconstruction of abnormalities or issues of the skull.

Right age for craniofacial surgery is 8 or 9 months of age as soon as the problem is recognized in child.

Craniofacial Defects :•Craniosynostosis•Rare Craniofacial Clefts•Cleft lip and palate•Micrognathia•Treacher Collins syndrome (TCS)

1. CraniosynostosisCraniofacial surgery is an operation to settle congenital (con-JEN-it-ool) imperfections of the skull, meaning defects that were present at birth, or injuries to the soft tissue and bone in the head and neck.

2. Rare Craniofacial CleftsIt is extreme disfigurements of the face & head that influences both bones and soft tissues. Clefts are shaped in utero when normal development of a baby’s head and neck are disrupted and parts of the face fail to fuse together, creating facial and/or cranial contrasts.

3. Cleft lip and palateA cleft lip is another type of facial defect which contains an opening in the upper lip that may reach into the nose. The opening may be on one side, both sides, or in the middle. A cleft palate is when the roof of the mouth contains an opening into the nose.

4. Micrognathia Micrognathia is a condition in which the jaw is undersized. In some children, micrognathia can cause abnormal tooth alignment because there is not enough room in your child’s mouth for the teeth to grow.

5. Treacher Collins syndrome (TCS)

It causes deformilities in ears, eyes, cheekbones and jawbones.
