Learning Goal

OStudents will understand the difference between hardware and software and understand parts of an Excel Worksheet.

OWhat is Excel and why do people use it?

Question? O When you buy a computer/laptop are

the programs already on the computer?

O What are the programs called?

Software O All the programs that tell a computer

OExcel worksheet allows data to be easily summarized and charted.

OIn comparison with the car, before you can fully operate Excel you have to know the parts in Excel.

OA spreadsheet software that allows users to organize data in rows and columns and perform calculations.

OA grid of rows and columns that holds numbers , words and formulas.

OIdentified by numbers on the left side of the worksheet.

OIdentified by letters at the top of the worksheet.

OThe box in a table or worksheet where a column and row meet.

OThe cell that contains the highlight or dark border around it.

OReferred to as a collection of related worksheets.

Creating a Worksheet and Embedded Chart

The first step in creating an effective worksheet is to Understand What is Required.

Required Needs Document

Oincludes a needs statement, a source of data, a summary of calculations, and any other special requirements for the worksheet.

Formatting the Worksheet

OYou format the worksheet to emphasize certain entries and make the worksheet easier to read and understand.

ODefines the appearance and shape of the letters, numbers and special characters.

OSpecifies the size of the characters on the screen and are measured in points.

Cell Style

OThe capability of changing several characteristics in of a cell at one time.

OTo emphasize it or make it stand out from the rest of the worksheet.

OA Chart is a graphical representation of data contained in a worksheet

OCharts can make the data in the worksheet easier to read and understand.
