What is Crisis Management

The process by which an organisation

deals with any major unpredictable

event that threatens to harm the

organization, its stakeholders, or the

general public.

Elements of a Crisis

• a threat to the organization,

• the element of surprise,

• a short decision time.

Types of Crisis

Natural – mud slides, earthquakes, floods,

typhoons, ground subsidence

Accidental – fires, floods, black outs, toxic waste,

explosions

Man-made – explosions, fires, floods, black outs,

product contamination

Risk, Scale & Impact

• Will it ever happen?

• If it did, how big will it be?

• What is the likely impact on life and the

community?

• Does the size of the crisis correlate with its

impact?
