NATURE=

NURTUREStudies indicate that environment and genetic disposition are equally as responsible in shaping human behaviorAmong many factors that impact an individual’s personality and behavior - one isolatable factor is nearly impossible to distinguish

Parenting practices and socialization– Inadequate socialization(wrong ideals of morality and socially accepted behavior)– Extreme: too soft or too harsh/unfair– Physical discipline– Incompetence (age, health, non-educated)– Poor supervision

Kids develop a style that emphasizes the use of force, fraud, stealth and other wrong ways.

IDEAL FAMILY

PARENTING

Not quite everyone’s cup of tea

Some parents believe that by being harsh disciplinarians, it would "toughen" the child. Instead, it often creates a lack of love between parent and child that can

have disastrous results. If the child doesn't bond with its primary caretakers, there is no foundation for trusting others

later in life. This can lead to isolation, where intense violent fantasies become

the primary source of pleasure

Charles Manson’s 16-yr old unmarried run-away mother, was a criminal and a drunk. She first named him “No Name Maddox”. She once sold him for a pint of beer in a bar.

Albert DeSalvo tortured animals as a child and began shoplifting and stealing in early adolescence

His father, a violent alcoholic, once knocked all of his wife's teeth out and broke her fingers one by one in front of Albert. He also forced his children to watch him have sex with prostitutes he brought home

Carroll Edward Cole was forced by his mother to watch as she had sexual encounters with men. She would often beat him to scare him into not telling his father. Cole was frequently whipped and beaten by his mother for the minor infractions, and he grew up with a deep hatred of women

16

Edmund Kemper was cruelto animals; stabbed a pet cat at age 13. He acted out bizarre sexual rituals with dolls. Killed his grandparents and his mother. Ed was close to his father and wasdevastated when his parents divorced . He stayed with his mother, a violent alcoholic. She constantly belittled and humiliated him, and often made him sleep in a locked basement, because she feared that he would rape his younger sister

Henry Lee Lucas, one of nine children, was regularly beaten by his alcoholic prostitute mother, and often was forced by his mother to watch her having sex with men. His mother would often dress him as a girl. At 10, his brother stabbedhim in the eye while they werefighting. His mother ignored the injury for 4 days, eye got infected and had to be replacedby a glass eye.In sixth grade he practiced bestiality and zoosadism while he was a runaway

John Gacy's dad berated his son, calling him a sissy and a failure. A violent alcoholic, Gacy's father beat his mother, and shot his son's beloved dog to punish young John.

At the age of 9, Gacy was molested by a family friend, but never told his father about these incidents as he was afraid his father would blame him. When Gacy later strangled his young victims, he was reasserting his own vision of a masculine identity that had been squashed down by his father
