A Message from the Principal’s Desk
Dear Parents and Community Members,
There have been so many fantastic events during the last few weeks, including Aboriginal Education Day
and the Education Week Awards Ceremony at Gunnedah High School. A huge congratulations and thank
you to Taleah Haddow, Casey West and Mr MacBeth who were recognised at the Education Week Awards
Ceremony for their outstanding contributions to Curlewis Public School. The Athletics Carnival and Blackville
Spelling Bee were also big successes, so thank you to all involved in those days as well.
This week’s thank you goes to Karen Luckel, who made the yummy cupcakes for Aboriginal Education day. Thank you Karen, the kids (and staff) really appreciated their deliciousness! Staffing Changes
This term we have welcomed Mrs Pepper for an extra day a week. Mrs Pepper will now work Tuesday, Thursday and Friday on K/1 for the remainder of the year. Mrs Hoade will continue to work Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Mrs Stoker will be taking Long Service Leave from Week 6, Term 3 until Week 7 of Term 4.. I am in the process of finding a relieving Instructional Leader and will notify the community of who this will be as soon as possible. Small School’s Athletics Carnival
The small school’s athletics carnival is on this Friday at Wolseley Park, Gunnedah. The first event commences at 9am sharp and students are asked to arrive no later than 8:45am to allow for teams to be organised. Students are to wear their sports uniform. Please ensure that all clothes, especially hats, jumpers and tracksuit pants are clearly labelled. Little Stars Transition Information Session
On Tuesday 21 August, Miss Hoade and Mrs Pepper will be running a Little Stars transition information session at 2:30pm. If you have a child enrolling in Kindergarten next year please come along to find out about this fantastic transition program. Safety Week
Next week is safety week. During the week we will be having an evacuation and lock down drill. If you are in the school grounds during either of these drills, please follow the appropriate procedure. Both procedures are attached to the newsletter for your convenience.
On the topic of safety week, please remember that children under the age of 10 should walk to and from school with an adult. Young children need your help to spot danger like vehicles coming out of driveways. They can also be easily distracted and wander into traffic. Have a great week, Jacqui Jones

Dear Parents and Community Members,
Thank you to all parents and community members who joined us for Aboriginal Education Day. It was a great day to
celebrate our indigenous culture.
Curlewis Hotel Raffles
The Curlewis Hotel Friday Night Raffles continue to support local groups and organisations in our village, and during
August the proceeds are going to support our P & C. If you can spare a few hours one Friday evening to sell tickets,
please let Casey West know on 0488 941 249.
Drought Relief Dog Food Drive
Students are asked to bring in a can of dog food to donate to our local farmers. We are also doing a coin map where
we will have a big map of the region outlined and all the students can fill it in with coins. So break open the money
boxes and send it in for a great cause! All proceeds will go to our local farmers.
Fantastic Friday
There is no Fantastic Friday this week as the whole school will be in Gunnedah at the Small Schools Athletics Carnival.
The next Fantastic Friday is 24th August and will be home-made sausage rolls with a choice of a warm Milo or cool
cordial all for $5. As always, we welcome parents to come and assist us with the cooking and serving on Fridays and if
you would like to help, please call Casey on 0488 941 249.
Thank you for your ongoing support for our wonderful students.
