Doctors threaten indefinite strikefor release of arrested medico

Mir FarhatSRINAGAR, May 20:

Doctors Association Kashmirhas threatened to launch indefi-nite strike if the arrested doctoris not released by police bytomorrow.

DAK spokesman, Dr SuhailNaik, said described continueddetention of their president bypolice as unfortunate and con-demnable as his continueddetention is affecting patientcare at SMHS Hospital.

Dr Naik said Dr NissarulHassan is Associate professor atMedical College and there arelarge numbers of patients underhis supervision.

Dr Hassan was arrested bypolice on Monday from the

SMHS Hospital while he wasattending to his patients.

The spokesperson hasappealed doctors to shut routinework in all hospitals for onehour from 10:00 am to 11:00am, but continue work in emer-gencies, critical care units andoperation theaters so that com-mon people do not suffer.

Dr Naik warned StateGovernment that if Dr Hassan isnot released by tomorrow, wewill be forced to shut the emer-gency services also and StateGovernment will be responsiblefor the consequences.

Meanwhile, CoachingCentres Association (CCA) ofKashmir has strongly con-demned the arrest of Dr. NisarulHassan, who is the presidentDoctors Association of Kashmir(DAK).

CCA chairman G N Vartermed it as victimization ofprofessional cadre in the Stateand said that the Government istargeting him for his standagainst injustice.

SRINAGAR, May 20: LegalMetrology officials today slappeda fine of Rs 15,000 on the liquorsellers in Srinagar or overchargingboozers of the Valley.

An official statement said thatafter persistent complaints lodgedby boozers of the Valley that liquor

shops of the city are indulging insubstantial over-charging on thebottles of wine and beer, the fieldexecutives of Legal MetrologyDepartment under the supervisionof Deputy Controller raided thepremises of the liquor shops.

"The boozers at the liquorshops waiting for their turn com-plained that they were routinelyover-charged by them. They alsocomplained that the liquor shopsdo not give them the receiptdespite their insistence," the state-ment said.

The statement said one personwho has been charged Rs.3700produced the wine bottle beforethe inspecting team to show thatthe MRP on the bottle was onlyRs.3300 and a beer bottle of500ml priced at Rs.65 was beingsold at Rs.90.

"The Inspector LegalMetrology Circle-I registered thechallan cases against the liquorshops for over-charging on theliquor bottles. The management ofthe liquor shops gave different rea-sons for the over-charging," he said.

Motorcyclist diesin road mishapExcelsior Correspondent

UDHAMPUR, May 20: Amotorcyclist died after his bikewas hit by a tipper near Green BarDhar Road, late last night.

The deceased was identified asAshish Gupta (24) son of MunshiRam Gupta of Styani Udhampur.

The accident took place whena tipper bearing registration num-ber JK14C-3453 hit the motorcy-cle JK14B-2261. Police shiftedthe injured District HospitalUdhampur where doctorsreferred him to GMC Jammu inview of his critical condition.However, he succumbed to hisinjuries on way to Jammu.

Meanwhile Udhampur Policeseized the tipper and registered acase in this connection.

Shastri demands release of 10%DA for employees, pensioners

JAMMU, May 20:Emphasizing need for earlyrelease of 10% DA due fromJanuary last and 4th installment of6th Pay Commission arrears infavour of State Governmentemployees and pensioners,National Mazdoor Conference(NMC) today demanded ChiefMinister to release the same, as theState Cabinet is going to meettomorrow at Srinagar.

Addressing a largely attendedNMC activists' rally at GandhiNagar, its president, SubhashShastri, said there is no justifica-tion on the part of the StateGovernment for withholdingpending installment of DA to itsemployees and pensioners, as thesame has already been released bythe Centre as well as many StateGovernments during model codeof conduct, which is now over andso there should be no hitch on partof J&K Government in releasingthe DA arrears as it is a part of thesalary and pension.

Shastri also pressed the

Government to release 4th install-ment of 6th Pay Commissionarrears, alleging that the funds forthe same has already been ear-marked in the current State Budgetof the State.

The other demands highlight-ed by Shastri include enhancementof medical allowance to Rs 1000per month, early amendment inSRO 64, removal of all pay anom-alies in SRO 93 particularly cleri-cal staff, regularization of servicesof all daily wagers working in var-ious departments of StateGovernment, issuance of regular-ization orders of 180 daily wagersworking in RDD, merger of 50%DAinto basic pay and pension andenhancement of wages of dailywagers to Rs 10, 000 per month.

Army refutes girl having died of left over explosive

SRINAGAR, May 20: Armytoday claimed that the girl whowas killed in Drang area ofBudgam district did not die of theexplosion left over by the Armyafter carrying out firing drills inTosamaidan artillery firing range.

An Army spokesman said thatmedia has blamed Army for leav-ing the shell unexploded after car-rying out firing drills.

"It has been brought out thata 12 yrs old girl, Simran Riyazdied on the spot while her brotherFayaz Ahmed Parray lost both hislegs when they walked over a lit-tered shell," the spokesman said.

He said the location of inci-dent was a house instead of nal-lahs and the explosion cannot berelated to an artillery shellbecause explosion of even asmaller caliber artillery shellwould have caused the room orthe house to collapse or get dam-aged.

"There was only a small craterof few inches. Artillery shell

could not have drifted from theimpact area and come toLassipora as there is no nallahconnecting impact area and thevillage. In fact the interveningfeatures are such that no amountof rain could cause this. Also asper the reports, the explosion tookplace in a field. However, theexplosion has taken place withinthe house of Manzoor Parray,"the spokesman claimed.

He said notwithstanding thereason of the incident, the Armyon request of the family and onhumanitarian grounds took on thetreatment of the child and admit-ted him at the Badami Bagh BaseHospital.

He aid Army also imploresthe media houses not to publishunconfirmed facts and biasedreports devoid of truth.

"Army expresses grief overthe incident of explosion andsends its condolences to thebereaved family," he said.

JAMMU, May 20: ABangladeshi national was arrestedby Border Security Force (BSF)today along International Border(IB) in RS Pura.

As per police sources, MosinBapari, son of Amir Hussain ofBangladesh was arrested by BSFjust 200 meters away fromMangral Border Out Post (BOP).

The Bangladeshi national wasroaming along the InternationalBorder (IB) under mysterious cir-cumstances and was caught by thealert BSF personnel.

Nothing discriminatory hasbeen recovered from his posses-sion and he was handed over topolice for further investigation.
