Data Management and Collaboration in the CloudBrian Schanen

Product Manager, Fusion Lifecycle | Business Strategy & Marketing | Autodesk

In this Instructional Demonstration, we will teach you how to upload,

view, and collaborate with data in the Autodesk cloud. But getting

data into the cloud is only part of the story; you’re going to want to

do something with it. We will do all of this through a brand-new

cohesive and fluid experience that you have to see! This session

features Fusion Team (formerly A360) and also Fusion

Lifecycle(formerly PLM 360).

Start Time: 3:25 pm | End Time: 4:20 pm

Autodesk Drive Access and Use Cloud Data from Desktop

Autodesk Drive Utility Defined

Simple and extensible

integration

Changes how you interact with

data

Native application dialog boxes,

workflows

Autodesk Drive

Move one file → get all files = smart data management. Autodesk Drive is watching the file operations,

cracking open the file, and bringing in related files for you.

Patented technology achieves on-premise PDM performance in the Cloud

Transfers the difference between files, not entire file

Avoids sending the data rather than compressing it

Transfer Avoidance™

Why send the entire file?

Sending only the differencesreduces file size / increases speed

Regarding Folders

Virtual File System in Windows

Explorer

Not everything shown is

necessarily there

Upon Open, pulls down what it

needs

Clear cache on top level folders

Regarding Files

From Hub Drive:

Opens Fusion Team

Brings you to latest version of

file

Rename, Move, Copy, Delete

Perform in Workspace when

possible*

Renaming Files

Do this in Hub Drive (Windows

Explorer)

Alternatively, do this in Fusion Team,

but…

Do not D/L the assembly from

Fusion Team

Rather, use the Hub drive to open

the file(s)

Autodesk Drive will “heal” the

assembly on Open

Moving Files

Similar rules to Rename, perform in Hub

Drive

Alternatively, do this in Fusion Team, but…

Do not D/L the assembly from Fusion

Team

Rather, use the Hub drive to open the

file(s)

Autodesk Drive will “heal” the

assembly on Open

FOS Utility

So What?

Avoid Resolving missing files

New! Offline Mode for Windows® Platforms

Work with your connected drive

content without being online

Open, edit, and create files in a

connected drive which were

opened within the past 72 hours

Changes are uploaded when you

put Autodesk Drive back online

Operating on Attachments

Let’s take a look…

Attachment Pinning

More access control over data, depending on the business process.

Allows multi-versioning the same data over different FLC items, for better collaboration in your business process.

Particularly useful for data consistency while running and approving workflows.

It’s all about the consolidation!

Access to attachment pinning

Three kinds of pinning policies

On-Lock

To-Version

Float

User can choose to select either one

Version selection occurs on the “To-Version” policy

The “On Lock” Policy

This is the default pin type when data is attached.

The policy is enforced only when the parent item enters a locked state.

The attached data remains locked to the latest version of the file that existed when the item entered a lock. Incidentally, the pinned version is

also the latest version

The “To-Version” Policy

Allows the user to tie files/design data to a specific version of the data.

User can select any version from lineage to pin to.

Flexible in approach – more power to the user

While editing, select “To-Version”

Float Policy

Data is always updated whenever new versions are created

Latest versions always exposed

Assists when the latest updates on files/designs are call of the hour
