Valentine’s Stay & Play
Pre-Prep
Butterflies Butterflies have loved
exploring different activities,
such as gloop, paints, glue,
foam etc. The children have
loved playing out in the garden
mainly in the rain and snow in
their waterproof suits and
wellies splashing in the
puddles, the children loved
adding paint to the puddles to
see the different colours and
the marks they made. The chil-
dren have been practicing their
physical skills playing on the
climbing frame and are getting
much more confident walking
the steps not even holding
onto the hand rail which is
fantastic. Story and rhyme
time is always very popular
with the children and more of
the children are now joining
in with the actions and words
to the rhymes. As you all may
know 'Dear Zoo' is the book
the children all love and the
children would sit and read it
for hours if we let them. Our
French lesson is very popular
and the children join in and
have so much fun, as soon as
they see the teacher walk into
the room they go and sit in
their spaces on the floor. We
are all so proud of how the
children are developing in
butterflies and I am sure you as
parents are too.
our own Scottish flags and made some shortbread biscuits. We also
celebrated Chinese New year where the children got to taste
some different Chinese food, play in some sensory noodles and rice play with chopsticks in the tuft
tray and also made some Chinese lanterns. We have been working very hard on our Valentine's day crafts for our families and loved
playing with them at the Valentine's day stay and play! We have also been working hard on
our number, letter and shape recognition
and our writing!
The children all settled back in really well after Christmas and
we have also had some new children join our pre prep class who have enjoyed meeting new
friends and bonding with the staff in their room. The children
all enjoyed working on our fairy tales topic this half term for our new display. They created the
different characters from the books, tried their best to copy
over some words associated with the stories and also participated
in activities to do with the different fairy tales like making porridge for goldilocks, building the 3 little pigs houses and also making their own gingerbread
men. The children enjoyed celebrating the Scottish holiday burns night where we decorated
Prep 1 Junior
Since returning after Christmas
we have been very busy getting
back into our learning. We
have been working hard on our
reading and writing, recog-
nising 2D and 3D shapes, we
participated in a numbers week
where the children worked
hard on their letter recognition
and formation. Our main topic
has been dinosaurs after a lot
of children displayed a big
interest in this during their
play. We have been learning
the different dinosaur names
and discussing their features
and the children were very
interest in learning about
which dinosaurs were
herbivores and which were
carnivores. They have been
also been taking part in a varie-
ty of education dinosaur
themed activities, such as
measuring the size of the
dinosaurs footprint, using their
writing skills to write about
dinosaurs, creating dinosaurs
using a variety of shapes,
ordering dinosaurs by size and
doing dinosaur sums. I would
also like to take this
opportunity to wish all the chil-
dren good luck who are
moving up to 'big school' after
half term,
although they
are very excited
for their new
adventure
myself, Anna
and Morag will
miss them all
very
much .
