Planning your internet success

Planning concepts

• 80/20 principle

• Avoid the BSOs

• Now-Where-How

One page plan

Steps to prepare your 1-page plan1. Where are you NOW?

2. WHERE do you want to be in 3 yrs?3. What are your options to get there?4. What’s the best option?5. What needs to be in place in the

next 12 months?6. Prepare action plan with who and

when.

Step 1Where are you

NOW?

“NOW” issues

• Strengths

• Weaknesses

For example:

• Time available

• Cashflow available

• Current skills

Step 2WHERE do you want

to be in 3 years?

“WHERE” analysis

Imagine the next 3 years are really successful. What would be the end points or results of

those 3 years of success?

Step 3What are your options

to get there?

Note:Don’t start with the opportunity and ask

“how long with this take, what will it cost and how

much will it make?”

Instead:Start by defining:• how much time and

cashflow you have• how much money you want

to make• what sort of lifestyle you

want

Then ask “which one of the many

opportunities meets my criteria?”

Take control.

List your options on the

impact / ease table

Step 4What’s the best

option?

Rate each opportunity out of 10 for impact.

Impact means “If I did this one, how closely would it get me to my

goal?”

Rate each opportunity out of 10 for ease.

Ease means “How much time and money will it

take? Do I have the skills and enthusiasm for it?”

Plot each opportunity on the grid.

Choose one that’s in the top right hand corner.

Step 5What needs to be in place in the next 12

months?

Step 6Prepare action plan with who and when.
