    TYPICAL PHYSICALPROPERTIES

APPLICATIONSD-D has application in all drillingareas and can be used in virtuallyany water-base drilling fluid. It isused primarily in upper-hole drill-ing to minimize bit and Bottom-Hole Assembly (BHA) balling, reducesurface tension, and aid in drop-ping sand and the removal of drillsolids. It may be used as an emulsi-fier at any point in the drillingoperation to improve emulsificationof oil and reduce the viscosity of oil-contaminated fluids. D-D frequentlyreduces torque and drag, even whenno oil is present in the system.

Normal treatments range from 0.1 to 0.2 lb/bbl (0.29 to 0.57 kg/m3)and provide satisfactory performanceunder most conditions. In severegumbo shale areas, 4 to 6 lb/bbl (11.4 to 17.1 kg/m3) concentrationsof D-D are recommended to mini-mize bit and BHA balling; higher con-centrations may cause foaming andrequire a defoamer. D-D is effectivein all water-base systems includingfreshwater, brackish water, seawaterand saturated saltwater fluids.

    TOXICITY AND HANDLING

Bioassay information is available on request.

Handle as an industrial chemical, wearing protective equipment and observing the precautions asdescribed on the Transportation andMaterial Safety Data Sheet (MSDS).

Fluids containing high concentra-tions of D-D may not be suitable for discharge into all marineenvironments.

    PACKAGING AND STORAGE

D-D is a liquid packaged in 5-gal(18.9-l) cans and 55-gal (208.2-l)drums. International packagingmay vary.

Store in a location away fromsources of heat or ignition.

Minimizes bit and BHA balling. Reduces the surface tension of the

liquid phase, helping to drop sandand remove drill solids.

Improves water-wetting action onall solids and reduces the stickingtendency of reactive shale cuttings.

Functions as an emulsifier, reducing the viscosity of oil-contaminated fluids.

    Effective in all water-base muds.
