HILLCREST ELEMENTARY NEWSLETTER
Principal: Dr. Cammy Coughlin Vice Principal: Ms. Julia Fellman Admin Asst: Ms. Jolette Holland
School Goal: To increase students’ experience, understanding, and awareness of Aboriginal ways of knowing
across the curriculum. As students explore their own identities along with learning from the Aboriginal perspective, this will lead to further growth in their emotional and social development.
Hillcrest is a globally aware community that values acceptance, diversity and engaged learning
while fostering and celebrating student successes
DATES TO NOTE:
PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE: I am pleased to be back and enjoyed seeing the students shining on the stage during their Winter Concert. A huge thank you to Mrs. Seale for her organization, leadership, and devotion to the students so that they could be well prepared for their songs, lines, and special parts in the performance. Mr. Lim also helped backstage to keep the classes organized and running smoothly. We have amazing teachers at Hillcrest - thank you to all of them that kept students pre-show jitters at bay and to encourage and motivate the students! As we prepare for our two week winter break, I would like to wish you all a joyous time with your families and friends. May you enjoy the gift of time with your loved ones, and we will see you back at school on Monday, January 7, 2019.

Thank you to the Hillcrest Choir for performing so beautifully at our Remembrance Day Assembly, the two Winter Concerts, as well as the PAC 's Not so Silent Night Event. What a
busy season we have had!
New members are invited to join the choir; we rehearse every Thursday from 11:58-12:36 in the music room. Upcoming performances include the school assembly scheduled for 1pm on Tuesday, February 19th, and the District 61 Victoria Sings Concert scheduled for
Monday, March 4th at 7 pm at the University of Victoria Farquar Auditorium. We will also sing at the Lambrick Family of Schools Evening of Music which will be on Thursday, March 14th at 7 pm at Lambrick Park High School. With the three important concerts to prepare
for, attendance at all rehearsals is needed and expected.
Have a great break, see you at rehearsal at lunch recess on January 10th, 2019!
Mrs. Seale
Winter Concert Thank-you’s!
We are so grateful for all of the wonderful volunteers who help the kids make their Winter Concert happen.
We would like to thank Mr. Blackmore for his hard work in creating the amazing Snow Biz stage backdrop, as well as Mrs. Wardle for the beautiful snowflakes.
We also couldn’t put the performance together without the help of the parent helpers. Thank you to Tonia Ross, Sarah Schoeck, Sandy Hansen, Michelle Loukko and Suzi Smart!
Thanks also to Andrew Pitre and Sebastien Pisterzi who helped with the big job of tear down.
Friday is Popcorn & Pajama Day Students and staff have worked so hard this term!
On Friday, Dec 21 we are inviting everyone to lounge around in their pajamas for the
final day of school in 2018. If you’d like, bring $2 for a tasty Kernel’s popcorn
