Teresa’s Tidbits Ilovethistimeofyearandallthejoythatcomeswithit.ThereisnothingbetterthanwatchingafavoriteHolidayshow(mineis“WhiteChristmas”),seeingchildrenopenpresents,singinginachoir,participatinginaplay,spendingtimewithfamily,decoratingthehouse,orbakingcookies.Alloftheseactivitiesbringjoyandhappinesstotheholidayseason.Myfondestmemoriesaretraditionsthathavebeenpasseddownforgenerations.Theholidayseasoncanbestressful.HaveyoueverbeeninastoreonBlackFridayandwitnessedtwopeople ightingoveranadvertiseditem.Ihave,moretimesthanIcancount,andIfound

myselfwonderingiftheitemwasreallyworththeensuingcon lict.Forme,IwouldmuchratherwanderthroughthestoresingingalongtotheChristmasmusicthanhavesomethingmaterialbreakmyspirit.Hereareafewhelpfultipsthatmayhelpyouthisholidayseason: Makeyourself#1.Ifyouarehealthy,relaxedandhappy,youwillbemoreavailable

toothersandbetterabletomanagestressandenjoytheholidays.Goforalongwalk,getamassageortaketimeouttolistentoyourfavoritemusicorreadanewbook.Allofusneedsometimetorechargeourbatteries.

Rememberwhat'simportant.Remindyourselfthatwhatmakesagreatcelebrationislovedones,notstore‐boughtpresents,elaboratedecorationsorgourmetfood.

Helpsomeoneoutinneed.Thereisnogreaterjoythangivingtoothers.Mykidslookforwardtothistimeofyear,justsowecangoshoppingormakedinnerforafamilythatislessfortunate.

TresaBrown,Principal’sSecretaryTresastartedatKearnsJr.duringthe2013‐2014schoolyearasaParaintheself‐containedbehaviorunit.Priortothat,shewastheprimarycaregivertoherlive‐inmotherwhosufferedfromDementia.Shecelebratedher25thanniversaryinAugust.SheandherhusbandhaveonesonwhoisasenioratCottonwoodHigh.ShewasbornandraisedinSaltLakebutmovedtoLasVegassixmonthsaftersheandherhusbandmarriedandtheylivedtherefor15years.Inhersparetimeshelikestowatchsports,GOUTES!Shelovesgardening,reading,travelingandspendingtimewithherfamily!WelcomeaboardTresa!AmyTorres~BookkeeperAmyhasworkedforGraniteSchoolDistrictsince2008,startingoutasanhourlysecretary,thenbecameasecretaryinHumanResourcesin2009.FromthereshemovedtoKearnsJr.inFebruaryof2010.SheismarriedtoawonderfulmanandtheyhavetwobeautifulchildrenTyson,12andNichole9.Inhersparetimeshedoesphotography~AmyNicholePhotography.Shesaysshelovescapturingmomentsinthelivesofothers.SheisalsoworkingonherundergradinsocialworkthroughBYUIdahoandhopestoputthattogoodusewithintheschoolsystem.

MichelleRaymond,RegistrarMichellehasworkedforGraniteDistrictfor14years.TenofthoseyearshavebeenatKearnsJr.High.Shehelpedraise14children( iveareherown)andshehas18grandchildrenand1great‐grandchildontheway.Shelovestotravelandoneofherhobbiesissinging.Herfavoritethingismakingpeoplelaughorsmile.ThanksMichelle,keepupthegreatwork!

Doyouhaveapositiveattitude?Moreimportantly,dootherpeoplethinkyoudo?Stayingupbeatcanbechallengingwhenthingsaren’tgoingwellatworkorwiththefamily.Oursocietyunderstandsthatandhasrespondedtotheproblemwithabevyofpositiveattitudebooksandpowerofpositivethinkingmessages.Butthenwestruggletounderstandhowtohaveapositiveattitudewhenyouloseajob,amarriagefails,orachildisstrugglingwithhealthproblems.Whileitispossibletoexudeself‐con idencethatisreinforcedbypositiveaf irmations,ittakesconsistenteffort.Beloware12reliabletipsforimprovingyourstateofmindtocultivateapositiveattitude.1.Givethanksforeachday. Whetheryousayittoyourselforprayaboutit,expressgratitudeforallthethingsyoutakeforgranted,including yourplacetolive,family,employment,clothes,neighbors,transportation,education,sunshine,foodchoices, health,andfreedom.Evenifyouhavejustsomeofthesethings,orsmallamountsofthem—likeahighschool diplomainsteadofacollegedegree—bethankfulthatyouhaveeventhatmuch.Americansenjoythetop10%of theworld’swealth;now,that’ssomethingtobegladabout.2.Countyourpersonalblessings. Inadditiontogeneralgratitude,lookforpersonalbene itsinyourlife.Thesecouldincludethingslikeaclear mind,a itbody,nicefurniture,asociallife,leisuretime,trustworthyfriends,healthcareinsurance, entertainmentopportunities,andahostofotherthingsthatyouwouldn’tnoticeunlesstheyweretakenfromyou. Youcanevenmakealistandaddtoitasmorethingscometomind.Thenwhenyouarefeelingdown,readyour listtoberemindedofallthegoodthingsinyourlife.3.Doagooddeedwithouttellinganyone. Isn’titexcitingtohelppeoplewithoutthemknowingit?Imaginethesurpriseonasinglemom’sfacewhenshe receivesananonymousdeliveryofgroceriesoragiftcardforafreeoilchange.Howaboutachild’sdelightedgrin whenhe indsabicyclewithhisnameonitonthebackporchorreceivesagiftcerti icatefortheathletic equipmentstore?Anelderlyneighbormightgaspinshockto indher lowerbedsweededonemorning.Thereare plentyofgooddeedswaitingtobedonebycaringpeoplelikeyou.Thesurprisingrewardisyouwillfeelbetter aboutyourselfandtheworldatlarge,too.4.Forgiveanoldhurt.
