At the Bilek Racing Silver State “300”, racers challengedsome of the most scenic desert land in the country. Thecourse had a mixture of high-desert mountains, sand-washes, and some of the most awesome scenic viewsever witnessed in off-road racing. The course wentthrough unbelievable rock formations in the PahrocSummit area, the Dalamar Valley, where the ghost townof Dalamar was located and gold was discovered in 1890.Plus, the Cathedral Gorge area with its eroded spires, towers and columns of tan bentonite clay and Pioche, which in 1870 was considered to be one of the wildestmining camps in the West. Not only was this a greatrace, but also a great event for the whole family.

If you don’t think it’s better to start on the pole, ask Sam Berri. This was SamBerri’s first overall win; he finished a little less than 3 minutes ahead ofsecond place Chuck Dempsey.
More than 180 racers left the starting line for this exciting first timeevent.Other notable finishers included:Alexa Bilek, (daughter of race sponsor Mike Bilek) won Class 1100. Steve Olliges, first in Class 1400, Trick Truck.Curt LeDuc took home first in Class 8000.Jason Horsely, was the Pro Truck winner.First overall motorcycle across the line was the Honda of Dylan Laneand Jeff Trulove.

first-aid & communications Medical - First-Aid
The Best In The Desert is committed to safety and welfare. We have assembled teams of First-Aid personnel to respond if needed. These volunteers are wonderful, skilled, dedicatedmedical professionals. Most work daily as EMS providers in the areas that these races are held. They are not miracle workers, butthey will be there when needed. Our teams will work with local EMS agencies and work towards definitive care. If you need them, look for the First-Aid flags at the gas stops. Participants USE your yellow cards! If you do not need them, wave as you cover themwith dust. Race smart and enjoy the scenery in wonderful Nevada.
Good Luck!
CommunicationsThe Best in the Desert Communications. The hardest most forgotten part of any off-road event until someone has an emergencyor wants something from somewhere else on the race course. Many people don't realize the difficulty of having goodcommunications. It's not easy!! With race courses that are sometimes spread out over 500 miles, the logistics of getting raceinformation where it's needed, and when it's needed...as well as the information being correct can only be done by people thatcare. In most Best of the Desert events all communications are handled by amateur radio operators. Casey Folks recognizedearly in his promoting career the need for solid, good communications and amateur radio has been a part of Best in the Desertever since we began. Many of the amateur radio volunteers supporting the Best in the Desert are not racers, but have a "can doattitude" and enjoy the challenge of the Nevada desert and demonstrating the capabilities of amateur radio. Without the hamradio operators and other volunteers supporting the sport and Best in the Desert, there would be no Best in the Desert. Mydeepest thanks and appreciation to all of them... they make an almost impossible task appear fun and easy. Thanks to all and have fun! Keith Purmal

Race Team profile
Gary Dixon is the owner ofLost Boys Racing, alongwith his sons Derek andStewart Dixon. Full CircleConstruction & Maintenanceis our sole sponsor, althoughwe are and have been seekingadditional sponsors. Ourracing team consists of father
and sons as the drivers, along with familyand friends as our pit crew and support. Wetry to make all our races a family event, where the kids can enjoy camping, BBQ,campfires and racing.
We have always enjoyed the outdoors inone way or another. Skiing at the river, motorcycling or trucking through thedesert and even having fun with building
demolition derby cars, arejust some of the things wehave enjoyed doing. Best InThe Desert has provided uswith an opportunity to enjoythe outdoors while encouragingour competitive spirit too. Ourfirst race was in Henderson in2004 and we have competed inevery BITD race since. We haveenjoyed many podium finishesbut yet to receive a class win. However, in our best year, weclaimed the #2 spot for our class.
Some of our best times together have beenthe prep time before the races. We havelearned many things and have created someinnovative ways in solving problems with ourtrucks.
We have also ventured racing Baja. Each racehas truly been an adventure that allows us toget away, let go to enjoy a little life on theedge. Good for the Soul.
We support Best In The Desert, ScoreInternational and CORR, in that order. Wevalue all the friends we have made over thepast 5 years. In a competitive class such asours, a strong sense of camaraderie still findsits way into every race. We have thankedCasey many times, but not publicly. He istruly the best racing promoter and organizerand it has really made all the difference. Weappreciate all your efforts and energy to makeBest In The Desert what it is.
