Why the Changes?

● A College and Career Readiness HS● Provide more options at an earlier grade● More flexibility in the daily schedule● Greater opportunities for our students● The opportunity to earn HS credit in foreign

A Student’s Schedule for Next Year

7 bell day (Wednesday - CCR Xbell)Four core classes:

Language Arts - 2 bellsMath - 1 bellScience - 1 bellSocial Studies - 1 bell

2 Bells of Electives (Amity - “Specials”)

Some electives are all year long (Y)Some are only a half a year (S)

Your student will need to sign up for classes that will complete those bells.

3 Different Options of REQUESTS

1. Request 2 year-long classes (Y)2. Request 1 year-long class (Y) and 2 semester classes (S)3. Request 4 semester long classes (S)

However, please remind your student that these are requests. The students have been asked to provide back-ups.

The Courses

Spanish I Students who apply to be in Spanish as junior high students have the opportunity to begin their language learning in junior high and earn a high school credit! It also allows them to continue their studies through Spanish V and earn Honors credit! We also organize Educational Tours to other countries that you can be a part of!!

French 1● French class is an opportunity to learn something

new, interesting and different.● French is a useful language for business and

travel.● French is an official language in 29 countries on

five continents.● Students can earn a high school credit.● Students have opportunities to travel abroad.

7th and 8th Grade Tech

★ To familiarize students with the proper use of the computer★ To build touch control of the keyboard while increasing speed and

accuracy rate★ To teach students the basics of Word processing Excel

spreadsheets and PowerPoint★ Students will learn to use the computer as a tool in their everyday

work life★ To improve the student’s knowledge of software applications★ Students will use the Internet to do research★ Students will understand social issues related to the Internet★ Introduce to students to the world of Business

7th Grade Art: Students will have an introduction to basic art skills and materials.

8th Grade Art: Students will explore the basic skills in drawing, painting, printmaking and 3D construction.

The Career Academies● A new opportunity for our students● Replacing our industrial arts program● Focus is on learning the business principles, the soft-

skills needed in the industry, & the technology behind the business principles

● Co-taught by subject-matter experts● Clustered by 7 & 8, 9 & 10 and 11 & 12● Goal: For students to be able to obtain additional dual

credit opportunities and/or work-force certificates

EntrepreneurshipThis Career Academy will directly involve students in what it really takes to start a business and make it successful. This course will also have a large focus on the digital skills and the IT necessary to launch and manage a successful company. 7th and 8th grade students will be intermixed.

Digital Instructional DesignThis Career Academy will focus on how to design and build effective online learning for companies and educators via stories, video games, mobile apps, videos, music and the latest computer-based graphics and tools. 7th and 8th grade students will be intermixed.

Final Comments and Questions

● Remind your student to provide back-ups.● Selection for foreign language at the 7th grade level

will be competitive. 8th grade students will be given first priority. 6th grade students who are interested in applying should register on their course request for the foreign language class of their choice and see Ms. Brown at Amity for an application.
