The definition of abstract is “expressing a quality or characteristic apart from any object or instance.” Jackson Pollock was arguably the most well known abstract expressionist artist. He felt strongly that his work be interpreted freely, which is why he started numbering his work (instead of naming) in order to make people look at the picture for what it is. Abstract rugs have gained such popularity over the years for much of the same reason – individual interpretation. With today’s design of more eclectic interiors that are not rooted from any particular place, era, or quality, abstract designs can fit into virtually any room.
