An alternate to high stakes testing!

• Performance based assessments:

• A teacher-learner process that allows the student to use her own skills to learn new skills.

• Example: KCCT removed the Arts & Humanities portion from standardized test -replace with a performance assessment. A child will learn and play a piece of music based on already constructed knowledge/ability.

For the young child

• A young child may create a masterpiece from constructed knowledge of colors, shapes, texture.

• Must have real world connection

• Be an application of learning

• May be individual but often group based and each member is essential as individual and group performance is evaluated.
