4. How this Ear Thermometer Measures Ear Temperature

Thisthermometermeasuresinfraredenergyradiatedfromtheeardrumandthesurroundingtissue.Thisenergyiscollectedthroughthelensandconvertedtoatemperaturevalue.Themeasuredreadingobtaineddirectlyfromtheeardrum(TympanicMembrane)ensuresthemostaccurateeartemperature.Measurementstakenfromthesurroundingtissueoftheearcanalgene-ratelowerreadingsandmayresultinmisdiagnosisoffever.

To avoid an inaccurate measurement:• Firstsliponaprobecover.• SwitchonthethermometerbypressingtheO/Ibutton.• Afteronebeepisheard(andthetemperaturescaleiconisflashing),

straightentheearcanalbygentlypullingthemiddleoftheearbackandup.

• Placetheprobefirmlyintotheearcanal,presstheSTARTbuttonand keep the probe in the ear until the thermometer beeps to signalthecompletionofthemeasurement.

This thermometer has been clinically tested and proven to be safe and accurate when used in accordance with its opera-ting instruction manual.

1. PresstheO/Ibutton.Thedisplayisactivatedtoshowallsegmentsfor2seconds.

2. Thelastmeasurementreadingwillautomati-callybeshownonthedisplayfor2secondswiththe«M»icon.

3. Whenthe «°C»or«°F»iconisflashing,abeepsoundisheardandthethermometerisreadyformeasurement.

4. Straightentheearcanalbypullingtheearupandbacktogiveaclearviewoftheeardrum.

• Forchildrenunder1year;pulltheearstraightback.

• Forchildrenof1yeartoadult;pulltheearupandback.

Alsorefertotheshortinstructionsatthefront.

5. Whilegentlypullingtheear,inserttheprobesnuglyintotheearcanal(max. 1 sec.)andimmediatelypresstheSTARTbutton.Releasethebuttonandwaitforthebeepsound.Thisistheindicationthatconfirmstheendofmeasurement.

6. Removethethermometerfromtheearcanal.Thedisplayshowsthemeasuredtemperature.

NOTE: To ensure accurate readings, wait at least 30 sec. after 3-5 continuous measurements.

• Foraninfant,itisbesttohavethechildlyingflatwithhis/herhead sidewayssotheearisfacingupwards.Foranolderchildoradult, itisbesttostandbehindandslightlytothesideofthepatient.

• Alwaystakethetemperatureinthesameear,sincethetempera-turereadingsmaybedifferentfromeartoear.

• Inthefollowingsituationsitisrecommendedthatthreetempera-turesinthesameearbetakenandthehighestonetakenasthereading:

1) Newborninfantsinthefirst100days.2) Childrenunder threeyearsofagewithacompromised immune

systemandforwhomthepresenceorabsenceoffeveriscritical.3) When theuser is learninghow touse the thermometer for the

8. Changing from Fahrenheit to Celsius and vice-versa

ThethermometercandisplaytemperaturemeasurementsineitherFahrenheitorCelsius.Toswitchthedisplaybetween°Cand°F,simp-lyturnOFFtheunit,press and holdtheSTARTbuttonfor5secondsuntil«---»andtheflashing«°C»or«°F»iconisshownontheLCD.Switchthemeasurementscalebetween°Cand°FbypressingtheSTARTbuttonagain.Whenthemeasurementscalehasbeenchosen,waitfor5secondsandtheunitwillenterthereadyformeasuringmodeautomatically.

9. How to recall 12 readings in Memory Mode

Thisthermometercanrecallthelast12readings.Torecallplease followsequence.

PressingandreleasingtheSTARTbuttonafterthelast12readingshavebeenrecalledwillresumetheabovesequencefromreading1.

10. Cleaning and Storage

Useanalcoholswaborcottontissuemoistenedwithalcohol(70%Isopropyl)tocleanthethermometercasingandthemeasuringprobe.Ensurethatnoliquidenterstheinteriorofthethermometer.Neveruseabrasivecleaningagents,thin-nersorbenzeneforcleaningandnever immerse the instrument in water or other cleaning liquids.Takecarenottoscratchthesur-faceoftheprobelensandthedisplay.Removethebatteryfromtheinstrumentifitisnotrequiredforextendedperiodsoftimeinordertoavoiddamagetothethermometerresultingfromaleakingbattery.

Lamesureaffichéeobtenuedirectementdutympan(membranetympanique)donnelatempératureauriculairelaplusjuste.Lesmesuresprisessurletissuenvironnantducanaldel’oreillegénèrentunelecturedelatempératureplusbasse,cequipeutentraînerunmauvaisdiagnosticdelafièvre.
