Entry Activity – Multiply the following numbers

Level 51. 23 x 152. 45 x 823. 89 x 61Level 64. 3.5 x 9.45. 5.3 x 0.546. 0.61 x 3.67. 3.45 x 2.7

Success Criteria1. See how many digits are in both

numbers2. Draw a box for each digit 3. Put the numbers above each of the

boxes4. Draw the diagonals across the boxes5. Do the multiplications for each box

(remember the units go in the bottom half of the box).

6. Add up across the diagonals (remember to carry any ten’s).

7. Write the answer out

DecimalsRemember to count the digits after the

decimal point in the question and put the same number of digits after the decimal

point in the answer.

Success Criteria ~ Dividing Decimals1) Is the decimal the second number (to divide by)? If no do a normal divide sum. If yes, move to step 2.

2) Multiply both numbers by 10 to try and make the 2nd number a unit.

3) Is the number a unit? If yes go to step 4, if no repeat step 2.

4) Write the sum out e.g.

5) Put the decimal point in the answer above the decimal point in the question. Make sure you keep your workings in line.

6) Complete the sum
