Safe Driving Safe driving is incredibly important. Not only could it save your life, it could save you money on repairs and help you get cheaper car insurance.

Dos

• Regularly check your tyres, break pads, lights and oil level.

• Make sure your spare type is in good condition and that you have a working jack.

• Investigate the cause of any strange noises or changes in the feel of your car.

Don’ts

• Don’t try to save money by putting off servicing; regular maintenance helps keep your car safe.

• Don’t make unsafe aftermarket modifications; always consult and expert on the safety of any modifications you are considering.

• Don’t buy a car you find difficult to drive.

General Driving

Dos

• Pay attention to the situation on the road at all times, use your mirrors and check your blind spots.

• Follow the rules of the road; wear your seatbelt and stick to the speed limit.

• Regularly check to see if any of the rules of the road in your area have changed recently.

Don’ts

• Don’t drive if you are feeling particularly tired, ill or hungover.

• Don’t drive normally in poor conditions; slow down and be more cautious.

• Don’t allow yourself to be distracted; avoid eating, using a phone or messing about with your stereo while driving.

Other Road Users

Dos

• Be courteous and try to avoid frustrating other road users.

• Always use your indicators even if you haven’t noticed anyone else around.

• Use your horn to let people know you are there if you are coming up to a blind corner/summit on a narrow road.

Don’ts

• Don’t get too close to other road users.

• Don’t assume that other roads users are going to do what you expect them to do; the roads can be unpredictable.

• Don’t get upset about the behaviour of other road users; it can distract you and cause you to make poor driving decisions.
