Duá for the

Day of A'ráfah(9th Dhul Hijjah)

Among the famous du`as to be recited on A'ráfah day is

the du`a of Imam Husayn (á). Bushr and Bashir, the sons

of Ghalib Asadi, have said that they were in the

presence of the Imam (á) in the late afternoon on the

Day of A'ráfah on the plains of `Arafat. The Imam came

out of his tent along with a group of followers and some

of his family members including his sons, while he was

extremely humble and tenderhearted. They stood on the

left side of the mountain; then they faced the qiblah,

held their hands before their faces, palms upward in the

gesture of begging, and recited this du`a:

د وآل اللهم صل على محمد محم

O Allah, (please do) send blessings

to Muhammad and the Household

of Muhammad

ح ٱلر مم بسم ٱلل ح ٱلر مIn the name of Allah, the

Beneficent, the Merciful

ٱل ي لمس الحمد لل ذلقضائه دافع

Praise be to Allah Whose

determination cannot be repelled

by anything,

ع وال لعطائه مان Whose gifts cannot be stopped by

anything,

ه ص نع صانع وال كصنعand Whose making cannot be

resembled by the making of

anyone.

ع وهو ٱلجواد ٱلو اسHe is the All-magnanimous, the All-

liberal.

دائع فطر اجناس ٱلب He originated the genus of the

wonderfully created things

كمت بح نائ واتق ع ه ٱلصand He perfected the made things

by His wisdom.

ٱلطالئع ال تخفى علمه All growing things cannot be

hidden from Him

ند مع ع ه ٱلودائع وال تضand all things deposited with Him

shall never be wasted.

ي كل صانع جازHe is the Repayer on every deed,

ع ورايش كل قان the Enricher of every satisfied one,

م كل ضار ع وراحthe Merciful toward every

supplicant,

ل ٱلمناف ع ومنزand the Revealer of the benefits

ع بٱلنور تاب ٱلجام وٱلكع ٱلساط

and the All-comprehensive Book

with the glaring light.

ع وهو للدعوات س امHe is also the Hearer of prayers,

لكربات داف ع ولwa lilkurubati dafi`un

ع وللدرجات راف the Raiser of ranks,

لجبابرة ق ع ول امand the Suppressor of the tyrants.

فال إله غمره There is no god other than Him

ل ه وال شيء يعدand there is nothing equivalent to

Him

ثله شيء ولمس كمand nothing like a likeness of Him,

مع ٱل مر وهو ٱلسم بصand He is the All-hearing, the All-

seeing,

مف ٱلخبم ر ٱللطthe All-gentle, the All-aware,

ير وهو على كل ش يء قدand He has power over all things.

غب إلمك اللهم إن ي ار O Allah, I willingly desire for You

بوب لك واشهد بٱلر مand I testify to the Lordship of You,

ا بانك رب يمقر confessing that You are verily my

Lord

يوان إلمك مرد and to You shall be my return.

عمتك ابتداتني بن You had begun bestowing on me

ا ائا مذكورقبل ان اكون شم before I was anything worth

mentioning,

ٱ لتراب وخلقتني مand You created me from dust.

الصالب ثم اسكنتني ٱYou then put me up in the loins,

نا لريب ٱلمن ون آم(making me) saved from

vicissitudes of time,

وٱختالف ٱلدهور نم وٱلس and change of ages and years.

نا صلب فلم ازل ظاع مم إلى رح

I was moving from a loin to a womb

ٱال يام في تقادم م م ٱلماض

throughout the passage of the past

days

وٱلقرون ٱلخال مand the ancient ages;

جني لر افتك بيلم تخرas You have not taken me out (to

this world)—on account of Your

sympathy to me,

ولطفك ليYour kindness to me,

وإحسانك إلي and Your compassion to me—

ائم ٱلكفر في دولin the government of the heads of

unbelief

نقضوٱ ع ي ٱلذ هدwho breached their covenant with

You

وكذبوٱ رسلك and denied Your messengers.

نك اخرجت ي س لك بق ني للذ ٱلهدى لي م

However, You took me out on

account of the guidance that You

have already known about me

ي له يسر تنيٱلذand You have made easy the way to

it

وفمه انشاتنيand You have brought me up in it.

قبل ذلك رؤفت بيومEven before that, You had

compassion on me,

ك مل صنع بجمthrough Your excellent conferral

ك وسوابغ نعمand Your affluent bestowals.

فٱبتدعت خلق مني ي ميمنى

So, You fashioned my creation from

semen that gushed forth

ظلمات واسكنتني فيثالث

and put me up in triple darkness

لحم ودم لد بم وجamong flesh, blood, and skin.

دني خل قيلم تشهYou have not made me witness my

creation,

ولم تجعل إل ي شمائا مي امر

and You have not referred any part

of my creation to me.

ي سبق ثم اخرجتني ل لي لذ ٱلهدى م

You then took me out on account of

the guidance that You have already

known about me

إلى ٱلدنما تام ي ا ا سوto the world, perfect and in sound

health.

فال وحفظتني في ٱلمهد ط صبم ا

You have safeguarded me in the

cradle as small child.

ٱ ذاء لب ورزقتني م نا لغ ي ا مر

You have provided me with

wholesome milk as food.

وعطفت علي قلوب ٱلحواض

You have made the hearts of the

nursemaids tender.

واح وكفلتني ٱالم م هات ٱلرYou have given me into the charge

of merciful mothers.

ط ق وكالتني م وارٱلجان

You have saved me from the visits

of the Jinn.

يادة ٱلز وسلمتني موٱلنقصان

You have delivered me from

increase and decrease.

مم يا رحم فتعالمت يا ر حSo, Exalted be You, O All-merciful,

O All-beneficent.

قا حتى إذا ٱستهللت ناطبٱلكالم

When I commenced (my life) by

pronouncing words,

نع اتممت علي س ام وابغ ٱإلYou perfected for me the affluent

bestowals,

ام دا في كل ع وربمتني زائ and brought me up with an

increase every year.

يلت فطرت حتى إذا ٱكتم When my creation was

accomplished,

ت ر يوٱعتدلت مand my power became straight,

تك اوجبت علي ح جYou put me under the obligation of

Your Claim,

فتك بان الهمتني م عرwhich is that You inspired me with

recognition of You

عتني بع كم ورو تك جائب حand alarmed me by the wonders of

Your wisdom,

ا ذرات في وايقظتني لم ك سمائك وارض

and You aroused in me that which

You created in Your heavens and

lands,

بدائع خلق ك مwhich is the excellent creation of

You.

كر ونبهتني لش وذ كرYou attracted my attentions to

thank and mention You.

واوجبت علي طاعتك بادتك وع

You made obligatory on me to obey

and worship You.

متني ما ج اءت به وفهرسلك

You made me understand that with

which Your Apostles came.

اتك قبل مرض ويسرت لي ت You made easy for me to find

agreeable Your pleasure.

مع ومننت علي ف ي جمذلك

You bestowed upon me with the

favor of all that,

ك بعونك ولطف out of Your aid and Your

gentleness.

خمر ثم إذ خلقتن ي مٱلثرى

As You created me from the best of

soil,

ي نعم لم ترض لي يا إ لهدون اخرى

You, my God, have not wanted for

me to have a certain favor (and to

be deprived of another)

ا نواع ورزقتني مٱلمعاش

and You therefore provided me with

the various kinds of living

ياش وصنوف ٱلر and types of wealth,

مم ٱالعظم علي بمن ك ٱلعظout of Your great and grand

conferral upon me,

يم إلي وإحسانك ٱلقد and Your eternal kindness to me.

مع حتى إذا اتممت علي جمٱلن عم

As You perfected for me all the

graces

م كل ٱلن ق وصرفت عن يand warded off all misfortunes,

لم يمنعك جهلي وجراتي علمك

my ignorance of You and challenge

have not stopped You

ب ان دللتني إلى ني ما يقر إلمك

from showing me that which takes

me near to You,

ديك ا يزلفني ل ووفقتني لم and from leading me to that which

grants me proximity to You.

بتنيفإن دعوتك اج So, if I pray You, You will respond

to me;

متنيوإن سالتك اعط and if I beg You, You will give me;

رتنيوإن اطعتك شك and if I obey You, You will thank

me;

دتنيوإن شكرتك ز and if I thank You, You will give me

more.

ك كل ذلك إكماال النعمعلي

All that is completion of Your

favors for me,

وإحسانك إلي and Your kindness to me.

حانك فسبحانك سب So, all glory be to You; all glory be

to You.

مد ي مع مبد مYou are verily Originator and

Reproducer (of the creation)

مد مد مج حمand worthy of all praise and full of

all glory.

وتقدست اسم اؤHoly be Your Names

وعظمت آالؤas Your bounties are so

immeasurable.

ك يا إ يفاي نعم ي احص لهكرا؟ عددا وذ

Which of Your favors, O my God,

can I count in numbers and

examples?

اق وم بها ام اي عطاياشكرا

Or which of Your gifts can I thank

properly?

اكث ي يا رب ان وه ر ممها ٱلعاد ون يحص

They are, O my Lord, too numerous

to be counted by counters

لما ب ون ها ٱلحافظ او يبلغ عor to be realized by memorizers.

درات ثم ما صرفت و عن ي

Moreover, that which You have

warded off and repelled,

ٱلض ر اللهم م اء ر وٱلضO Allah, from (the various kinds of)

harm and mischief

ا ظهر ل م اكثر م ي م وٱلسر اء ٱلعافم

is more than that which came to

me from wellbeing and joy.

ي بحقمق وانا اشهد يا إلهإيـماني

And I bear witness, O my God, with

my true belief,

قمنيوعقد عزمات ي and the fortitude of the

determinations of my conviction

يح ت يوخالص صر مد وحand the purity of my open belief in

Your Oneness

مكنون ض يوباط مر مand the essence of the secret of

my conscience,

ي ن ور وعالئق مجاري بصر

and the ties of the canals of the

light of my sight,

ير صفح جبمنيواسارand the lines of my forehead

ب ن يوخرق مسار فسand the hallows of the courses of

my breath,

ن ع يف مار رنمنيوخذارand the (nasal) cavities of my nose,

ماخ ب ص يومسار سمعand the courses of the meatus of

my hearing,

ت واطبقت علمه وما ضمشفتاي

and whatever my two lips hide and

cover up,

سانيوحركات لفظ ل and the motions of the vocalization

of my tongue,

يومغرز حنك ف ي وفك مand the socket of the palate of my

mouth and jaw,

يومنابت اضراس and the matrices of my dents,

ي و مشربيومساغ مطعمand the tasting of my food and my

drink,

ام راس مال يوحand the carrier of my skill,

غ ح يبائل عنق وبلوع فارand the tube of the tissues of my

neck

وما ٱشتمل علمه تامور ي صدر

and what is included by the cloak

of my chest,

تمنيوحمائل حبل و and the carriers of the cord of my

aorta,

جاب ق لبيونماط حand the cords of the pericardium of

my heart,

ي ك يوافالذ حواش بدand the pieces of the retinues of

my liver,

مف وما حوته شراس ي اضالع

and that which is included by the

cartilages of my ribs,

ل قاق مفاص يوحand the cavities of my joints,

لي وقبض عوامand the interactings of my

organisms,

لي واطراف انامand the extremes of my fingertips,

ي ي ودم ولحمand my flesh, and my blood,

ي وبشر يوشعرand my hair, and my skin,

يوعصبي وقصب and my nerve, and my sinews,

ي و ي ومخ ظام عروقيوعand my bones, and my brain, and

my veins,

ي ح مع جوار وجمand all of my organs,

وما ٱنتسج على ذلك ايام ي ضاع ر

and that which was pieced

together during the days of my

suckling,

ن يوما اقلت ٱالرض مand whatever of my body that the

ground carries,

ي ويقظت ي وسكونيونومand my sleeping, and my

wakefulness, and my

motionlessness,

وحركات ركوعيي وسجود

and the movements of my bowing

and prostration;

جتهدت ان لو حاولت وٱمدى ٱالعصار

(by all that I bear witness) that if I

try my best and strive throughout

all ages

رتهاوٱالحقاب لو عم and all times, if I live them,

دة م ي شكر واح ان اؤد ك انعم

to thank properly only one of Your

favors,

ك ما ٱستطعت ذل I will not be able to do that,

إال بمن ك ٱلموجب علي به شكر

except through a favor of You,

which also requires me to thank

You for it,

يدا ابدا جدonce again with new thanking

فا ع تمدا وثناء طارand with praise that is newly

acquired and newly prepared.

اجل ولو حرصت True is this! And if I try hard,

ك انا وٱلعادون م انامas well as the counters from Your

creatures,

ي مدى إ ك ان نحص نعامto count the scope of Your favoring,

سالفه وآنفه both the past and the present,

ا ما حصرناه عددwe shall never be able to calculate

it in number,

دا وال احصمناه ام or count it in time.

ك همهات انى ذل Too far is this! How can it be!

تابك وانت ٱلمخبر في كق ٱلناط

While it is You Who have informed

in Your rational Book

ق اد وٱلنبأ ٱلصand true news:

ال ” وإن تعدوٱ نعم الل “تحصوها

“And if you count Allah's favors,

you will not be able to number

them.”

تابك ٱل لهم وإن صدق ك باؤTrue is Your Book, O Allah, and

Your informing.

ورسلك وبلغت انبم اؤYour Prophets and Messengers

have conveyed

وحم ما انزلت علمه ك م مwhat You revealed to them, from

Your Revelation,

وشرعت لهم و م م بهينك د

and what You have made plain for

them and through them Your

religion.

يغمر ان ي يا إله Nevertheless, O my God,

ي وج ياشهد بجهد د I bear witness by my ultimate

possibility and my diligence

يومبلغ طاقتي ووسعand the scope of my vigor and my

capacity,

نا موق واقول مؤم ناand I say with full faith and

conviction:

ٱل ي لم يتخ الحمد لل ذ ذولدا

All praise be to Allah Who has not

taken to Himself a son

فمكون موروثاto be inherited,

له ش يك في ولم يك ره ملك

and Who does not have a partner in

His kingdom,

ٱبتدع فمضاده فمماto oppose Him in what He fashions,

ٱلذ ل وال ولي مand Who does not have a helper to

save Him from disgrace,

صنع فمرفده فمماto help Him in what He makes.

حانه فسبحانه سب So, glory be to Him, glory be to

Him.

ما آل لو كان فمه ه إال ٱللطرتالفسدتا وتف

If there had been in them any gods

except Allah, they would both have

certainly been in a state of disorder

and destruction.

د ٱالحد ٱلواح سبحان ٱللمد ٱلص

All glory be to Allah, the One, the

Only One, the Besought of all,

ي لم يلد و لم يولد ٱلذWho begets not nor is He begotten,

له ك فوا احد ولم يكand there is none like Him.

ل حمد حمدا يعاد الحمد لل مالئكته ٱلمقر بم

All praise be to Allah—praise that

is equal to the praise of His

Favorite Angels,

و انبمائه ٱلمر سلمand His missioned Prophets.

ع مرت وصلى ٱلل ه لى خMay Allah send blessings to His

Select,

د خاتم ٱلن محم بم مMuhammad, the Seal of Prophets,

ي ر ٱلطاه م بم وآله ٱلط وس م لم ٱلمخلص

and upon his Household, the pure,

immaculate, and well-chosen, and may

He send benedictions upon them.

كان ي اللهم ٱجعلني اخشا ارا

O Allah, (please) make me fear

You as if I can see You.

دني بتق واسع واMake happy by fearing You.

متك وال تشقني بم عصDo not make me unhappy by

disobeying You.

ر لي في قض ائك وخChoose for me through Your

decree.

لي في ق وبار درBless me through Your

determination,

مل ما ب تعج حتى ال احرت اخ

so that I will not long for hastening

that which You have delayed

مر ما عج لت وال تاخor delaying that which You would

hasten.

ناي في اللهم ٱجعل غ ي نفس

O Allah, (please) make my richness

in my conscience,

في ق م لبيوٱلمقconviction in my hear,

خالص في ع مليوٱإلsincerity in my deeds,

يوٱلنور في بص رlight in my sight,

مرة في ينيوٱلبص دand insight in my religion.

يومت عني بجو ح ارMake me find enjoyment in my

organs.

ي ي وبصر وٱجعل سمعن م ثم يٱلوار

Make my hearing and my sight

sound until I am inherited.

وٱنصرني على مظلمني

Grant me victory over him who

wrongs me,

ي ني فمه ثار بيوار ومآرmake me witness my avenge and

objective in him,

منيواقر بذلك ع and make it the delight of my eye.

ف ك ربتياللهم ٱكشO Allah, (please) relieve my agony,

وٱستر عورتيconceal my flaws,

مائ تيوٱغفر لي خطforgive my sin,

وٱخسا شمطانيdrive away my devil from me,

هاني وفك رredeem my mortgage,

ي ٱلدرج وٱجعل لي يا إلهٱلعلما

and decide for me, O my God, the

supreme rank

رة وٱالولى في ٱآلخin the Hereafter and in the former

(life).

تنيد كما خلق اللهم لك ٱلحم O Allah, all praise be to You for You

have created me

مرا فجعلتني سم معا بصand made me hear and see.

ا خلقتني ولك ٱلحمد كم All praise be to You for you have

created me

ي ا رح فجعلتني خل م قا سوبي

and made my creation perfect, on

account of Your having mercy on

me,

خ لقي غنم وقد كنت ع اand You could dispense with

creating me.

بما براتني فعدلت رب فطرتي

O my Lord, as You gave rise to me

and perfected my creation;

بما انشاتني فاحسنت رب صورتي

O my Lord, as You originated me

and did well my form;

بما احسنت إلي وفي رب ي عافمتن ينفس

O my Lord, as You conferred favors

on me and granted me wellbeing in

my self;

بما كالتن نيي ووفقت رب O my Lord, as You saved me and

led me to success;

بما انعمت علي رب فهديتني

O my Lord, as You bestowed favors

on me and guided me;

بما اولمت ك رب ل ني ومخمر اعطمتني

O my Lord, as You presented me

and gave me from every good;

بما اطعمت ني رب وسقمتني

O my Lord, as you fed me and

watered me;

بما اغنمت تنيني واقنم رب O my Lord, as You enriched me and

gave me to hold;

بما اعنتن ي رب واعززتني

O my Lord, as You helped me and

braced me;

بما البست رب ني مافي ٱلص تر س

O my Lord, as you clothed me from

Your pure cover

ك صنع ويسرت لي مٱلكافي

and made easy for me Your

adequate making,

د وآل صل على محم د محم

so, (please) send blessings to

Muhammad and the Household of

Muhammad,

ن ي على بو ر ائق ٱلدهوواعhelp me against calamities of ages

ي وٱاليام وصروف ٱللمال and changes of nights and days,

اهو ني م ال ٱلدنماونج rescue me from the horrors of this

world

رة وكربات ٱآلخand the anguishes of the Hereafter,

يعمل وٱكفني شر ماض ٱلظالمون في ٱالر

and save me from the evils of what

the wrongdoers do in the earth.

ٱكفنياللهم ما اخاف ف O Allah, as to what I anticipate,

(please) save me (from it).

وما احذر فقنيAs to what I watch out, (please)

protect me (against it).

ي ي ود ني وفي نفسفٱحرسني

Safeguard me in my soul and

religion,

ي فٱح فظنيوفي سفرwatch over me in my journeys,

يفٱخلفن وفي اهلي وماليbe in charge of my family members

and properties during my absence,

ل وفي ما رزقتن يي فبارbless me in that which You provide

as sustenance,

ي فذ لنيوفي نفس ل make me see myself as humble,

ٱلناس من وفي اعم ي فعظ make people see me as great,

نس وٱإل شر ٱلج ومفسل مني

keep me sound from the evils of

the Jinn and people,

فضحنيوبذنوبي فال ت do not disclose me because of my

sins,

يرتي فال نيوبسر تخزdo not disgrace me because of the

secret side (of myself),

بتلنيوبعملي فال ت do not try me in my deeds,

لبنيونعمك فال تس do not deprive me of Your bounties,

ف لنيوإلى غمر ال تكand do not refer me to anyone

other than You.

ت ي إلى م لنيإله كTo whom do You entrust me?

يب فم قطعنيإلى قرTo a relative, and he will rupture

my relation with him!

مد ف من ام إلى بع يمتجهOr to a strange, and he will glower

at me!

ليام إلى ٱلمستض م ف عOr to those who deem me weak!

يوانت رب ي ومل مك امرWhile You are my Lord and the

master of my affairs!

د بتي وبع اشكو إلمك غر ي دار

I complain to You about my

alienation and my foreignness

ملكته وهواني على مي امر

and my ignominy in the eyes of him

whom You have given domination

over me.

ي فال تحل ل علي إلهغضبك

So, O my God, do not make Your

wrath come upon me.

غ بت عل فإن لم تك ي ض وا فال ابالي س

If You are not wrathful with me,

then I care for nothing save You.

ك ن عافمت سبحانك غمر ااوسع لي

All glory be to You; yet, Your

granting me wellbeing is more

favorable for me.

بنور فاسالك يا رب ك وجه

So, I beseech You, O my Lord, in

the name of the Light of Your Face

ي اشرقت له ٱالرض ٱلذوٱلسماوات

to which the earth and the heavens

have shone,

فت به ٱلظ لمات وكشby which all darkness has been

uncovered,

م ل وصلح به امر ٱالو ي ر وٱآلخ

and by which the affairs of the past

and the coming generations are

made right,

متني ع لى غضبك ان ال تم(please) do not cause me to die

while You are wrathful with me

ل بي س خطك وال تنزand do not inflict on me Your rage.

ك ٱلعتبى لك ٱلعتبى ل You have the right to scold; You

have the right to scold;

بل ذلك حتى ترضى ق until You are pleased (with me)

before that.

ال إله إال انت There is no god save You;

رام رب ٱلبلد ٱلح Lord of the Holy City,

ام وٱلمشعر ٱلحر the Holy Monument,

مق وٱلبمت ٱلعت and the Ancient House

ي احللته ٱل برك ٱلذthat You have encompassed with

blessing

وجعلته للن اس امناand made security for people.

ع عفا ع مم يا م ظه لم ٱلذنوب بح

O He Who pardoned the grand sins

by His forbearance!

اسبغ ٱلن له عماء بفض يا مO He Who bestowed bounties by

His favoring!

اعطى ٱلج يل يا م زه بكرم

O He Who gave in abundance by

His generosity!

دتييا عدتي في ش O my means in my hardship!

بي في و حدتييا صاحO my companion in my loneliness!

ماثي في كر بتييا غO my relief in my agony!

م ي في نع متييا ولO my Benefactor in my amenities!

ي وإله آب ائييا إلهO my God and the God of my

forefathers:

مم وإسم مل إبراه اعAbraham, Ishmael,

وب وإسحاق ويعق Isaac, and Jacob;

مكائمل ورب جبرائمل وموإسرافمل

the Lord of Gabriel, Michael, and

Seraph;

د خ اتم ٱلنبم ورب محم مthe Lord of Muhammad, the Seal of

Prophets,

وآله ٱلمنتجب مand his elite Household;

ل ٱلتور مل ومنز نج اة وٱإلthe Revealer of the Torah, the

Gospel,

بور وٱلف رقان وٱلزthe Psalms, and the Furqan;

ل كهمعص وطه ومنز ويس

the Revealer of kaf-ha-ya-`ayn-sad

and ta-ha, ya-sin,

م م وٱلقرآن ٱلحكand the Qur'an, full of wisdom.

ت م عممني انت كهفي حب في سع تهاٱلمذاه

You are my haven when the wide

courses fail to carry me

مق بي ٱالر ض وتضبرحبها

and when the earth, despite its

width, become too narrow to bear

me.

ولوال رحمتك لكنت م م ٱلهالك

Without Your mercy, I would have

been of those perishing.

رتيوانت مقمل عث You overlook my slips;

إ ت ياي لكن ولوال ستر م ٱلمفضوح م

and without Your covering me, I

would have been of those exposed.

ي بٱلنصر على وانت مؤي داعدائي

You aid me with Your support

against my enemies;

إ ت ياي لكن ولوال نصر ٱلمغلوبم م

and without Your support, I would

have been of those overwhelmed.

خص نفسه بٱلسمو يا م فع وٱلر

O He Who gives Himself exclusively

superiority and highness;

ز ون ه يعتز فاولماؤه بعso, His friends pride themselves on

account of His pride.

جعلت له يا م ٱلملو ع م نمر ٱلمذل لى اعناقه

O He for Whom the kings put the

yoke of humiliation on their necks;

سطوات ه خائفون فهم مfor they are fearful of His authority.

وما يعلم خائن ٱال عمدور تخفي ٱلص

He knows the stealthy looks of

eyes and that which the breasts

conceal

ن وغمب ما تاتي به ٱالزموٱلدهور

and the future of the times and

ages.

ال يعلم ك مف هو إال يا مهو

O He save Whom none knows how

He is!

ال يعلم م و ا هو إال ه يا مO He save Whom none knows what

He is!

ال يعلم م ال ا يعلمه إ يا مهو

O He save Whom none knows what

He knows!

كبس ٱالرض على يا مٱلماء

O He Who surfaced the earth over

the water

ٱلسماء وسد ٱلهواء ب and blocked the air with the

heavens!

له اكرم ٱال سماء يا مO He Who has the noblest of

names!

ي ال يا ذا ٱلمعروف ٱل ذع ابدا ينقط

O Owner of favor that is never

interrupted!

ك ب لموسف يا مقم ض ٱلرر في ٱلبلد ٱلقف

O He Who directed the caravan

towards Joseph in the wasteland,

ٱلج جه م ومخر ب took him out of the pit,

له بعد ٱل م وجاع ي عبود لكاand made him king after

enslavement!

عقوب يا راده على ي O He Who had returned him to

Jacob

ت عمناه م بعد ان ٱبمض مم ٱلحزن فهو كظ

after his eyes became white on

account of the grief, and he was a

repressor of grief!

ر ف ٱلض ى وٱلبلو يا كاش ايوب ع

O He Who removed the distress and

misfortune from Job

ك يدي إ وممس مم ع براهذبح ٱبنه

and withheld the hands of Abraham

from slaying his son

ن بر س ه ه وفناء عم بعد ك رafter his old age and termination of

his lifetime!

ٱستجاب ل يايا م زكرO He Who responded to Zachariah

ى فوهب له يحم and granted him John

مدا ولم يدعه فر دا وحwithout leaving him alone and

lonely!

اخرج يون يا م س م ٱلحوت بط

O He Who took Jonah out of the

belly of the big fish!

بني فلق ٱلبحر ل يا مإسرائمل

O He Who cleft the sea to the

children of Israel;

فرعون فانجاهم وجعل ٱلم وجنوده م غرقم

so, He saved them and made

Pharaoh and his army of the

drowned!

ارسل ٱلر ياح يا م رات بم ته يدي رحم مبش

O He Who sent the winds, bearing

good news, before His mercy!

لم يعجل يا م على م خلقه عصاه م

O He Who has no hastiness on His

creatures who disobey Him!

ٱستنقذ ٱ يا م لسحرة مود بعد طول ٱلجح

O He Who saved the sorcerers after

their long denial!

عمته وقد غدوٱ في ن and after they had lived in His

bounty,

زقه و يعبدون ياكلون رغمره

eating from His sustenance, but

serving someone else other than

Him,

دوه وقد حادوه وناacting in opposition to Him,

antagonizing Him,

وكذبوٱ رسله and denying His messengers.

يا الل يء يا الل يا بدO Allah! O Allah! O Originator!

يعا ال ند لك يا بدO Fashioner! There is no equal to

You.

لك يا دائما ال نفاد O Everlasting! There is no end to

You.

ال ح م ي يا حم ا حO Ever-living when there was no

living thing!

ى يا محمي ٱلموت O Raiser from the dead!

هو قائم ع لى كل يا مت نفس بما كسب

O He Who watches every soul as to

what it earns!

ي فلم قل له شكر يا ممني يحر

O He to Whom I rarely turned

thankful; yet, He did not deprive

me,

مائتي فلم وعظمت خطيفضحني

against Whom I committed grand

sins; yet, He did not disclose me,

ي فلم ورآني على ٱلمعاصيشهرني

and Who saw me insisting on

disobeying Him; yet, He did not

divulge me.

حفظني ف ييا م غر ي صO He Who safeguarded me in my

early life!

رزقني ف ييا م بر ي كO He Who provided me with

sustenance in my old age!

ي ال ند يه ع اياد يا متحصى

O He Whose favors to me are

innumerable

ى ونعمه ال تجاز and Whose bounties cannot be

compensated!

عارضني بٱلخمر يا محسان وٱإل

O He Who receives me with good

turn and kindness

ساءة وعارضته بٱإلصمان وٱلع

but I meet Him with offense and

disobedience!

هداني لل يـمان يا مO He Who had guided me to faith

ف شكر قبل ان اعر ممتنان ٱال

before I learnt showing gratitude!

دعوته م يضا يا م رفشفاني

O He Whom I besought in sickness;

so, He restored me to health,

انيوعريانا فكس in bareness; so, He covered me,

نيوجائعا فاشبع in hunger; so, He satiated me,

انيوعطشانا فارو in thirst; so, He quenched my

thirst,

ن يوذلمال فاعزin humility; so, He granted me

dignity,

ف نيوجاهال فعرin ignorance; so, He taught me,

مدا فكثر نيووحin loneliness; so, He increased my

number,

يوغائبا فردن in foreignness absence; so, He

returned me home,

يومقال فاغنان in poverty; so, He enriched me,

را فنص رنيومنتصin victory-seeking; so, He

supported me,

سلبنيوغنم ا فلم ي and in richness; so, He did not

deprive me.

مع ذلك جم وامسكت عفٱبتداني

When I withheld praying Him in all

these situation, He took the

initiative.

شكر فلك ٱلحمد وٱلSo, all praise and thanks be to You;

اقال عثر تييا مO He Who overlooked my slips,

يونفس كربت relieved my agonies,

واجاب دعوتيresponded to my prayer,

وستر عورتيcovered my flaws,

وغفر ذنوبيforgave my sins,

ب تيوبلغني طلsettled my need,

يونصرني على عدو and supported me against my

enemy.

ننك وإن اعد نعمك ومIf I count Your bounties, favors,

ك نح مهاوكرائم م ال احصand liberal gifts, I will never

number them.

ي مننت يا موالي انت ٱل ذO my Master! It is You Who

bestowed (upon me).

ي انعمت انت ٱلذIt is You Who conferred favors

(upon me).

ي احسن ت انت ٱلذIt is You Who did good (to me).

ي اجملت انت ٱلذIt is You Who treated (me)

excellently.

ي افضل ت انت ٱلذIt is You Who favored (me).

ي اكملت انت ٱلذIt is You Who perfected (Your

blessings upon me).

ي رزقت انت ٱلذIt is You Who provided (me) with

sustenance.

ي وفق ت انت ٱلذIt is You Who led (me) to success.

ي اعطم ت انت ٱلذIt is You Who gave (me).

ي اغنم ت انت ٱلذIt is You Who enriched (me).

ي اقنم ت انت ٱلذIt is You Who gave (me) to hold.

ي آويت انت ٱلذIt is You Who gave (me) shelter.

ي كفم ت انت ٱلذIt is You Who saved (me).

ي هديت انت ٱلذIt is You Who guided (me).

ي عصم ت انت ٱلذIt is You Who protected (me).

ي ستر ت انت ٱلذIt is You Who covered my faults.

ي غفر ت انت ٱلذIt is You Who forgave (me).

ي اقلت انت ٱلذIt is You Who overlooked my sins.

ي مكن ت انت ٱلذIt is You Who established (me).

ي اعززت انت ٱلذIt is You Who consolidated (me).

ي اعنت انت ٱلذIt is You Who helped (me).

ي عضد ت انت ٱلذIt is You Who backed (me) up.

ي ايدت انت ٱلذIt is You Who aided (me).

ي نصر ت انت ٱلذIt is You Who supported (me).

ي شفم ت انت ٱلذIt is You Who restored (me) to

health.

ي عافم ت انت ٱلذIt is You Who granted (me)

wellbeing.

ي اكرمت انت ٱلذIt is You Who honored (me).

لمت تباركت وتعاBlessed be You and Exalted be You.

فلك ٱلحمد دائ ماSo, all praise be to You

permanently,

با ابدا ولك ٱلشكر واص and all thanks be to You enduringly

and eternally.

ف ي ٱلمعتر ثم انا يا إلهبذنوبي

However, it is I, O my God, who

confess of my sins;

فٱغفرها ليso, (please) forgive them to me.

ي اسات انا ٱلذIt is I who did badly.

ي اخطات انا ٱلذIt is I who did wrong.

ي هممت انا ٱلذIt is I who had evil intention.

لت ي جه انا ٱلذIt is I who acted impolitely.

ي غفلت انا ٱلذIt is I who was inadvertent.

ي سهوت انا ٱلذIt is I who was inattentive.

ي ٱعتمدت انا ٱلذIt is I who leaned (on something

other than You).

د ي تعم ت انا ٱلذIt is I who did wrong deliberately.

ي وعدت انا ٱلذIt is I who promised.

ي اخلف ت وانا ٱلذIt is I who failed to fulfill it.

ي نكثت انا ٱلذIt is I who breached.

ي اقررت انا ٱلذIt is I who confessed.

ي ٱعترف ك ت بنعمت انا ٱلذي ند علي وع

It is I who testified to Your favors

upon and with me,

يٱغفرها ل وابوء بذنوبي ف and I now acknowledge of my sins;

so, (please) forgive them to me.

ال تضر ه ذنوب يا مه باد ع

O He Who is not injured by the sins

of His servants,

م وهو ٱلغني ع طاعتهand Who can surely do without

their obedience,

ل صالحا عم وٱلموف ق منهم م

and Who inspires those of them to

do good,

مته بمعونته ورح out of His aid and mercy.

يفلك ٱلحمد إل ي وسم د هSo, all praise be to You, O my God

and my Master.

ي امرتني ف عصمتك إلهO my God: You ordered me, but I

disobeyed You.

ك تكبت نهم ونهمتني فٱر You warned me, but I violated Your

warning.

فاصبحت ال ذا براءة لي ر فاعتذ

So, I am now lacking neither

justification to apologize

ة فان ر وال ذا قو تصnor power to support myself.

شيء است ا قبلك ي فباي موالي

By which thing can I now meet You,

O my Master?

ي ام ببص يابسمع رIs it by my hearing, my sight,

ي ام ام بلساني ام بم دجلي بر

my tongue, my hand, or my foot?

يالمس كلها نع ند مك عAre all these not Your bounties on

me

ي تك يا موال وبكل ها عصم and with all of them I have

disobeyed You, O my Master?

و ي ٱلسبمل عل فلك ٱلحجYou have absolute argument and

claim against me.

سترني م ٱآلباء يا مهات ان يزج رونيوٱالم

O He Who covered me from fathers

and mothers lest they might have

driven me away,

خوان ان ٱلعشائر وٱإل وميعم روني

from relatives and friends lest they

might have gibed me,

م ٱلسالط ان وميعاقبوني

and from rulers lest they might

have punished me.

والي ولو ٱطلعوٱ يا م Had they, O my Master, seen

ن على ما ٱطلعت يعلمه مthat which You knew about me,

إذا ما انظرونيthey would certainly have granted

me no respite

طعونيولرفضوني وق and they would have rejected and

parted company with me.

يفها انا ذا يا إله Here I am now, O my God,

يديك يا يبم سم دbetween Your hands, O my Master,

ع ذلمل خاضsubmissive, humble,

مر حقمر حصhelpless, and worthless.

ر ال ذو براءة فاع تذI am now lacking neither

justification to apologize

ة فان ر وال ذو قو تصnor power to support myself,

فاحت ج بهاوال حجnor excuse to advance as a plea,

ح ولم وال قائل لم اج تراعمل سوءا

nor can I claim not committing and

not acting badly.

د ولو وما عسى ٱلجحوي ينفعن جحدت يا موالي

How can denial, if I deny, O my

Master, serve me?

ك كمف وانى ذل How and in what manner can I do

so,

ي كله ح دة وجوار ا شاهلت علي بما قد ع م

while all my organs are witnesses

for what I did?

ي شك وعلمت يقمنا غ مر ذI know for sure and without doubt

عظائم انك سائلي مٱالمور

that You will interrogate me about

these grand matter,

ي ال وانك ٱلحكم ٱلعدل الذتجور

You are the Just Judge Who never

wrongs,

وعدلك مهلكيYour justice will ruin me,

كل عدلك مهربيومand from Your all justice I flee.

بني يفإن تعذ يا إلهIf You, O my God, chastise me,

تك عل فبذنوبي بعد ي حجthen it is because of my sins after

Your claim against me;

وإن تعف عن يand if You pardon me,

ك وجود لم ك فبح وكرمthen it is on account of Your

forbearance, magnanimity, and

generosity.

سبحانك ال إله إال انت There is no god save You. All glory

be to You.

ٱل إن ي كنت م م ظالمI have been of the wrongdoers.

سبحانك ال إله إال انت There is no god save You. All glory

be to You.

ٱل مستغف إن ي كنت م ي رI have been of those seeking

forgiveness.

سبحانك ال إله إال انت There is no god save You. All glory

be to You.

ٱل إن ي كنت م ي د موح I have been of those professing

Your Oneness.

سبحانك ال إله إال انت There is no god save You. All glory

be to You.

ٱل إن ي كنت م م خائفI have been of the fearful.

سبحانك ال إله إال انت There is no god save You. All glory

be to You.

ٱل إن ي كنت م م ل وجI have been of the apprehensive.

سبحانك ال إله إال انت There is no god save You. All glory

be to You.

ٱل إن ي كنت م م اج رI have been of those hoping (for

You).

سبحانك ال إله إال انت There is no god save You. All glory

be to You.

ٱل إن ي كنت م بم اغ رI have been of those desiring (for

You).

سبحانك ال إله إال انت There is no god save You. All glory

be to You.

ٱل إن ي كنت م م ل مهل I have been of those professing

that there is no god save You.

سبحانك ال إله إال انت There is no god save You. All glory

be to You.

ٱل إن ي كنت م م سائلI have been of those beseeching

(You).

سبحانك ال إله إال انت There is no god save You. All glory

be to You.

ٱل مإن ي كنت م مسب حI have been of those glorifying

(You).

سبحانك ال إله إال انت There is no god save You. All glory

be to You.

ٱل إن ي كنت م ي مكب رI have been of those professing

that You are the Greatest.

سبحانك ال إله إال انت There is no god save You. All glory

be to You.

رب ي ورب آبائ لم ي ٱالوYou are my Lord and the Lord of my

bygone fathers.

ي علمك اللهم هذا ثنائ دا ممج

O Allah, this is my praise for You,

celebrating Your glory,

كر ي لذ دا وإخالص موح my sincerity to mention You and

profess Your Oneness,

ي بآالئ دا وإقرار ك معد and my acknowledgment of Your

bounties, counting them,

ا ان ي لم وإن كنت مقر ها احص

although I confess that I could

never count them

هالكثرتها وسب وغfor they are innumerable, abundant,

ها وتق ها إلى وتظاهر ادمث ما حاد

continuous, and prior to a certain

event.

هادني به مع لم تزل تتعه You have been conferring upon me

with these bounties

براتنيمنذ خلقتني و since You created and originated

me

ل ٱلعمر او مfrom the beginning of my age

ٱل غناء م ٱإل فقر مthrough meeting my poverty

ر وكشف ٱلضrelieving me from harm,

ر وتسبمب ٱلمس giving me means of easiness,

ودفع ٱلعسر repelling misery from me,

يج ٱلكر ب وتفرalleviating my agonies,

في ٱل بدن وٱلعافمgranting me wellbeing in my body,

في ٱلد وٱلسالم يand furnishing me with sound faith.

كر ولو رفدني على قدر ذمع ٱ نعمتك جم م لعالم

If all creatures assist me to be able

to mention Your bounties,

وٱآلخ م ل ٱالو م ي رincluding the past and the coming

generations,

على ذلك ما قدرت وال هم neither I nor will they be able to do

that.

المت تقدست وتع Holy be You and Exalted be You;

يم ع كر رب مم مم رح م ظYou are All-generous, All-great, and

All-merciful Sustainer.

ال تحصى آالؤYour bounties are innumerable,

وال يبلغ ثنا ؤ(proper) praise of You is

unreachable,

وال تكافى نع ماؤand Your graces cannot be

rewarded.

د وآل صل على محم د محم

(Please) send blessings upon

Muhammad and the Household of

Muhammad,

م علمنا ن عمك واتمperfect Your bounties for us,

دنا بطاعت ك واسعand make us happy by obeying You.

إال انت سبحانك ال إله All glory be to You. There is no god

save You.

مب ٱلمضط اللهم إنك ت ر جO Allah, verily, You answer the

distressed,

ف ٱلسوء وتكشremove the evil,

مث ٱلمكر وب وتغaid the anguished,

م وتشفي ٱلسقمcure the ailed,

وتغني ٱلفقمر enrich the poor,

م ر وتجبر ٱلكسset the broken,

م غ ر وترحم ٱلصhave mercy on the young,

ٱلكبمر م وتعhelp the old,

مر ولمس دونك ظه none can help against You,

ي ر وال فوقك قدnone is more powerful than You,

كبمر وانت ٱلعلي ٱل and You are the Most High, the All-

great.

مر يا مطلق ٱلمكب ل ٱالسO He Who release the shackled

captive!

فل ق ٱلط مر يا راز غ ٱلصO He Who provides sustenance to

the young child!

صم ٱلخائ ف يا عمر ٱلمستج

O He Who is the Preserver of the

afraid seeker of refuge!

يك ل ال شر ه وال يا مير وز

O He Who has neither partner nor

assistant,

د وآل صل على محم د محم

(please) send blessings to

Muhammad and the Household of

Muhammad,

ه ني في هذ واعط م ٱلعشand grant me, in this evening,

وانلت افضل ما اعطمت the best of what You have granted

and awarded

باد ع احدا مto any of Your servants,

تولمه نعم امincluding a grace that You donate,

دها وآالء تجد bounties that You re-offer,

تصر م فهاوبلa tribulation that You deter,

ف تكش هاوكربan anguish that You remove,

اودعوة تسمعه a prayer that You answer,

تتقب لهاوحسنa good deed that You admit,

تتغ دهاوسم ائ مand an evildoing that You screen.

مف بم مر ا تشاء خب إنك لطVerily, You are All-tender to him

You will, and All-aware,

ير وعلى كل شي ء قدand You have power over all things.

ي اللهم إنك اق دع رب مO Allah, Verily, You are the nearest

of those whom are prayed,

اجاب واسرع مYou are the promptest of those

who may respond,

عفا واكرم مthe most generous of those who

may pardon,

اعطى واوسع مthe most liberal of those who give,

سائل واسمع مand the most responding of those

whom are asked.

رة ٱلدنما وٱآلخ يا رحمممهما ورح

O All-beneficent of the world and

the Hereafter, and All-merciful!

ثلك م سؤول لمس كمNo besought one is like You

مامول وا وال سand none save You is hoped.

نيدعوتك فاجبت I prayed You and You answered me.

متنيوسالتك فاعط I besought You and You gave me.

بت إلمك متنيورغ فرحI desired for You and You had

mercy on me.

متنيووثقت بك ف نجI had confidence in You and You

saved me.

عت إلمك يفكفمتن وفزI resorted to You in awe and You

delivered me.

د اللهم فصل ع لى محمO Allah, (please) send blessings to

Muhammad,

ورسولك ونبم ك عبدYour servant, messenger, and

prophet,

وعلى آله ٱلطم بمم اجمع ي ر ٱلطاه

and to all of his Household, the

pure and immaculate,

م لنا نعم وتم اءand perfect for us Your graces,

وهن ائنا عطاءmake us taste the pleasure of Your

gifts,

وٱكتبنا لك ش ي ر اكand register us as thankful for You

ي ر الئك ذاك وآلand as oft-referring to You.

رب ٱل م آم م آم م عالمRespond, respond! O Lord of the

worlds!

مل ك فقدر اللهم يا مO Allah, Who owns; therefore, He

controls,

وقدر فقهر and controls; therefore, He has

absolute authority,

ي فستر وعصand is disobeyed; yet, He covers,

فر وٱستغفر فغ and is prayed for forgiveness;

therefore, He forgives.

ب ب يا غاي ٱلطال اغ ٱلر م مO He Who is the aim of seekers and

desirers

ومنتهى امل ٱلر م اجand the ultimate purpose of the

hope of hopers!

احاط بكل شيء يا م لما ع

O He Who encompasses all things

in knowledge

ع ٱلمستق راف ووس م مل لما ورحم وح

and covers those who quit (their

sins) with tender, mercy, and

forbearance!

ه إلمك اللهم إنا نت في وج م ه ٱلعش هذ

O Allah, we turn our faces to You in

this evening

فته اا وعظمته ٱلتي شرthat You deem honorable and

reverential

د نبم ك ورسولك بمحم(asking You) in the name of

Muhammad, Your Prophet,

Messenger,

خ مرتك م لقك وخthe best of Your creation,

منك على وح مك وامYour trustee on Your Revelation,

ير مر ٱلنذ ٱلبشthe bearer of glad tidings, the

warner,

راج ٱلمنمر ٱلس and the shining lantern,

ي انعمت به على ٱلذ م ٱلمسلم

with whom You have conferred

upon the Muslims,

موجعلته رحم للعالمand whom You made mercy for the

worlds.

د اللهم فصل ع لى محمد وآل محم

So, O Allah, bless Muhammad and

the Household of Muhammad,

د اهل ل ن كما محم ك ذلك ممم يا عظ

forasmuch as Muhammad deserves

that from You, O All-great.

على آله فصل علمه و So, (please) send blessings to him

and his Household,

ٱلط ٱلمنتجبم م بمم اجمع ي ر ٱلطاه

the elite, pure, and immaculate—all

of them,

دنا بعف عناوتغم وand encompass us with Your

pardoning us.

ت لمك عج ٱالصوات فإبصنوف ٱللغات

To You are the voices of various

languages clamoring;

ه فٱجعل لنا ٱللهم في هذ م ٱلعش

so, decide for us, O Allah, in this

evening

كل مبا م مه خمر تقس نص باد ع بم

a share from every good item that

You distribute among Your

servants,

ي به ونور تهدillumination by which You guide,

تنشر هاورحمmercy that You spread,

ل تنز هاوبركblessing that You bring down,

تجل لهاوعافمwellbeing that You extend,

زق تبسطه ورand sustenance that You stretch,

م م اح يا ارحم ٱلرO most Merciful of all those who

show mercy!

بنا ت في هذا ٱلوق اللهم اقلO Allah, turn us in this hour

مفلح م ح منج مsuccessful, flourishing,

غانم ي مبرور مblessed, and gainers.

وال تجعلنا م م ٱلقانطDo not include us with the

despondent.

ر حمتك وال تخلنا مDo not leave us without Your

mercy.

له م منا ما نؤم وال تحرفضلك

Do not deprive us of that which we

hope from Your favor.

رحمتك وال تجعلنا م م محروم

Do not make us deprived of Your

mercy,

وال لفضل ما ن له م ؤم م عطائك قانط

or despair of the favor of what we

hope from Your gifts.

وال تردنا خائ بمDo not turns us down disappointed

بابك مط وال م ي رودor driven away from Your door.

ي يا اجود ٱالجودO most Magnanimous of all those

who treat magnanimously

م واكرم ٱالكرمand most Generous of all those

who act generously!

إلمك اقبلنا م وقنمTo You are we advancing with full

conviction

بمتك ٱلحر ول م ام آم ي د قاص

and to Your Holy House are we

betaking ourselves purposefully;

نا على من نافاع ك اسSo, (please) help us do our rituals

(perfectly)

ل لنا حج ناواكمperfect for us our pilgrimage

ناوٱعف عنا وعاف pardon us, and grant us wellbeing.

ينافقد مددنا إلم ك ايدWe are stretching our hands toward

You;

ٱال ل ي بذ عتراف فهموسوم

so, they are marked by the

humiliation of confession.

نا ه اللهم فاعط في هذ ما سال م ٱلعش نا

O Allah, grant us in this evening

that which we have besought from

You

وٱكفنا ما ٱستك فمناand save us from that which we

have besought You to save us;

فال كافي لنا س واfor we have no savior but You

وال رب لنا غم رand we have no sustainer but You.

ك نافذ فمنا حكم Your decree is prevalent on us,

لم مط بنا ع ك محYour knowledge is encompassing

us,

عدل فمنا قضاؤ and Your decisions about us is just.

ر إقض لنا ٱلخم (Please) decree for us that which is

good

اهل ٱلخمر وٱجعلنا مand make us of the people of

goodness.

ب لن اللهم اوج ا بجودمم ٱالجر عظ

O Allah, decide for us, on account

of Your magnanimity, a great

reward,

يم ٱلذخر وكرa generous reserve,

ودوام ٱلمسر and a permanent easiness,

وٱغفر لنا ذنو م بنا اجمعand forgive us all our sins,

وال تهلكنا مع م ٱلهالكdo not annihilate us with those

annihilated,

ف عنا رافتك وال تصرورحمتك

and do not drive away from us Your

tenderness and mercy;

م م اح يا ارحم ٱلرO most Merciful of all those who

show mercy!

ت ي هذا ٱلوق اللهم ٱجعلنا ف سالك فاع م طمته م

O Allah, include us, at this hour,

with them who besought You and

You thus gave them,

دت فز ه وشكرwho thanked You and You thus

increased them,

بلته وثاب إلمك فق who returned to You and You thus

accepted them,

wa thaba ilayka faqabiltahu

ل إلم ذنوبه وتنص ك مها له كل ها فغفرت

and who renounced all their sins

before You and You thus forgave

them;

كرام يا ذا ٱلجالل وٱال O Lord of Majesty and Honor!

نا دنااللهم ونق وسد O Allah, purify us and lead us to

success

ع ناوٱقبل تضرand admit our earnest entreaty;

سائ ل يا خمر مO He Who is the best of all those

who are besought

ٱس م ويا ارحم م ترحand most Merciful of all those

whose mercy is sought!

ال يخفى علمه يا مإغماض ٱلجفون

O He from Whom the closing of

eyelids cannot be hidden,

ن وال لحظ ٱلعموnor are the glances of eyes,

ن ي ٱلمكنووال ما ٱستقر ف nor is that which settles in the

unseen,

لمه وال ما ٱنطوت ع ب مضمرات ٱلقلو

nor are things vanished under the

secrets of hearts.

احصاه اال كل ذلك قد لمك ع

Verily, all that has been

encompassed by Your knowledge

لمك عه ح ووسand covered by Your forbearance.

ا سبحانك وتعا لمت عميقول ٱلظالمون

All glory be to You; and Exalted be

You above all that the wrongdoers

say,

ا كبمرا علو in high exaltation!

بع ماوات ٱلس تسب ح لك ٱلس Declaring You glory are the seven

heavens,

ف وٱالرضون وم مهthe (layers of the) earth, and all

beings therein.

شيء إال يسب ح وإن م بحمد

There is not a thing but celebrates

Your praise.

مجد فلك ٱلحمد وٱل Yours are all praise, glory,

وعلو ٱلجد and exaltation of majesty.

كرام يا ذا ٱلجالل وٱال O Owner of majesty, honor,

ن عام وٱلفضل وٱالgrace, favoring,

سام ي ٱلج وٱاليادand huge bestowals.

يم وانت ٱلجواد ٱلك رYou are the All-magnanimous, the

All-generous,

مم ح ؤوف ٱلر ٱلرthe All-tender, the All-merciful.

ع ع اللهم اوس لي مزقك ٱلحالل ر

O Allah, provide me largely with

Your legally gotten sustenance,

ينيوعافني في بد ني ودgrant me wellbeing in my body and

my faith,

خوفي وآمsecure my fears,

ٱلنار واعتق رقبتي مand release me from Hellfire.

بياللهم ال تمكر O Allah, (please) do not plan

against me,

جن يوال تستدرdo not draw me near to

destruction,

وال تخدعنيdo not overreach me,

ٱلج وٱدرا عن ي شر فسقنس وٱإل

and drive away from me the evils of

the corruptive Jinn and men.

ع يا اسمع ٱلسام مO most Hearing of all those who

can hear!

ر يا ابصر ٱلناظ يO most Seeing of all those who can

see!

ويا اسرع ٱلحاس بمO swiftest of all those who call to

account!

م اح ويا ارحم ٱلر مO most Merciful of all those who

show mercy!

د وآل صل على محم د محم

(Please) send blessings to

Muhammad and the Household of

Muhammad,

م ٱلسادة ٱلممامthe auspicious chiefs;

حاجتي واسالك ٱللهم and I beseech You for my request

نمها لم ٱلتي إن اعطمت ني ما منع تنييضر

that if You answer, anything else

that You reject will not harm me

وإن منعتنمها لم ينفعني ما اعطمتني

and if You reject, anything else that

You respond will not benefit me.

رق اسالك فكا بتي مٱلنار

I beseech You for releasing me

from Hellfire.

ال إله إال انت There is no god save You,

يك ال شر لك وحدonly You, there is no partner with

You.

ٱلحمد لك ٱلملك ولك To You is the kingdom and to You is

all praise,

ير وانت على كل شيء قدand You have power over all things.

يا رب ي …ا رب يا رب O my Lord! O my Lord! O my Lord…

Imam Husain (á) then repeated ya-rabbi so frequently and effectively that he attracted the attentions of all the others who, instead of

praying for granting their needs, surrounded Imam Husain (á) to listen to him and pray for the response of his supplication. Then, they wept

with him. At sunset, they left Mount `Arafat with him.This is the end of Imam Husain’s supplicatory prayer on the `Arafat Day

according to the narrations of al-Kaf`ami in his book of al-Balad al-Amin and `Allamah al-Majlisi in his book of Zad al-Ma`ad. As for Sayyid

Ibn Tawus, he, in his book of Iqbal al-A`mal, adds the following statements to the supplicatory prayer:

ي انا ٱلفقمر ناي إله في غO my God, I am needy despite my

richness;

فكمف ال اكون فقمرا في ي؟ فقر

so, how can I not be needy in my

neediness?

ل ف ي انا ٱلجاه يإله لم ي عO my God, I am ignorant despite my

knowledge;

فكمف ال اكون جهوال في جهلي؟

so, how can I not be ignorant in my

ignorance?

ي إن ٱختال إله ف تدبمرO my God, the variety of Your

regulating of matters

وسرع طواء م ير قادand the swiftness of changes in

Your ordainments

ٱلع باد بك منعا ع فم ارhave urged Your servants, who

recognize You,

ٱلسكون إلى عطاء عnot to stop at a certain gift

نك ف ي بالء وٱلماس مand not to despair of You in

tribulations.

ن ي ما يل ي م يمق بلؤم إلهO my God, coming out of me is that

which fits my lowliness;

نك ما يلمق ب ك وم كرمbut coming from You is that which

befits Your nobleness.

ي وصفت ن فسك إلهاف ليبٱللطف وٱلر

O my God, You had ascribed to

Yourself gentleness and kindness

to me

فيقبل وجود ضع before the existence of my

weakness.

نهما بعد وجود افتمنعني مضعفي؟

Will You deprive me of these two

after the emergence of my

weakness?

ي إن ظهرت ٱلمحاس إلهن ي م

O my God, if amenities appear in

my conduct,

ع فبفضلك ول ن لي ك ٱلمthen that is on account of Your

favors and Your conferral on me.

ن وإن ظهرت ٱلمس م ياوIf evildoings appear in my conduct,

عل فبعدلك ولك ي ٱلحجthen that is still Your justice and

You have claim against me.

ي كمف تك لني وقد إلهتكفلت لي؟

O my God, how may it be that You

abandon me after You have

vouched for me?

ت وكمف اضام وان ر لي؟ ٱلناص

How may I be aggrieved and You

are my support?

مب وا نت ام كمف اخٱلحفي بي؟

How may I be disappointed and You

are undertaking my affairs?

ي مك بفق ها انا اتوسل إل رإلمك

Here I am begging You by my need

for You.

إلمك وكمف اتوسل How can I beg You

ل بما هو محال ان ي صإلمك؟

by something that is impossible to

reach You?

مك حاليام كمف اشكو إل How can I complain to You about

my manners

لمك؟وهو ال يخفى ع while they cannot be hidden from

You?

م ب مقاليام كمف اترجHow can I interpret my words

نك برز إ لمك؟وهو مwhile You are their source?

آماليام كمف تخم ب How come that You may let down

my hopes,

ي قد وفدت إلمك؟وهwhile they are addressed to You?

احواليام كمف ال تحس How come that You may not

improve my conditions

وبك قامت while they are originated by You?

ي ما الطفك ب يإلهO my God, how gentle You are to

me

مم جهلي مع عظdespite my notorious ignorance!

وما ارحمك بيHow merciful You are to me

يمع قبمح فعل despite my hideous deeds!

ي ما اقربك م ن يإلهO my God, how nigh to me You are

وابعدني عنك and how far from You I am!

وما ارافك بيHow kind to me You are;

ي يحجب ني عنك؟فما ٱلذso, what is that which can prevent

me from You?

ي علمت بٱخ تالف إلهٱآلثار

O my God, I have known, through

variety of signs

وار وتنقالت ٱالط and changes of phases,

ن ي ا م ف ن تتعر ان مراديء إلي في كل ش

that what You want from me is that

You introduce Yourself to me in all

things

ي شيء حتى ال اجهلك ف so that I will not ignore You in any

thing.

ي كلما اخر يإله سني لؤمO my God, whenever my lowliness

suppresses my voice,

انطقني كرمك Your nobility encourages me to

speak.

ي اوصافيوكلما آيستن Whenever my features lead me to

despair (of You),

ننك اطمعتني مYour bestowals make me crave for

You.

نه كانت محاس ي م إله مساو

O my God, as for he whose good

deeds are wrongdoings;

فكمف ال تكون مساوئه ؟ مساو

how can his wrongdoings not be

wrongdoings?

كانت حقائ ي قه دعاو ومAs for he whose facts are mere

claims,

فكمف ال تكون دعاواه ي؟ دعاو

how can his claims not be claims?

ي حكمك ٱلن افذ إلهمائتك ٱلق رة ومش اه

O my God, Your unstoppable

decree and Your surmounting

volition

مقال مقاال لم يتركا لذيhave not left any word to be said by

any orator

ي حال حاال وال لذand have not left any manner to be

displayed.

طاع ي كم م ها بنمت إلهO my God, too many are the acts of

obedience that I have prepared

شمدته اوحالand the conducts that I have

established,

ي عل ك مها عدل هدم ٱعتمادbut Your justice has ruined my

reliance on these,

نه ا فضلك بل اقالني مand, moreover, Your favoring has

made me abandon them.

ي إنك تعل م إلهO my God, You surely know

م ٱلطاع ان ي وإن لم تد ن ي فعال جزم م ا

that even my obedience (to You)

has not lasted in reality,

فقد دامت محب وعزماit has lasted in love (for it) and

determination (to do it)!

م وانت ي كمف اعز إلهر؟ ٱلقاه

O my God, how can I determine,

while You are All-supreme?

م و انت وكمف ال اعزر؟ ٱآلم

How can I quit determining, while

it is Your command (to determine)?

ي ف ي تردد ي ٱآلثار إلهO my God, my hesitation in

(following) Your traces

ب بعد ٱلم زار يوجwill result in unlikely visitation;

فٱجمعني علم دم ك بخلني إلمك توص

so, (please) join me to You through

a service that takes me to You.

و علمك بما ه كمف يستدل ه مفت ؟قر إلمك في وجود

How can You be figured out

through that whose existence

relies on You?

ٱلظهور ايكون لغمر مما لمس لك

Can any thing other than You hold a

(kind of) manifestation that You

lack

ر حتى يكون هو ٱلمظهلك؟

and thus it may act as an

appearance for You?

بت حتى تحتاج إلى متى غمك؟دلمل يدل عل

When have You ever been absent

so that You may need something to

point to You?

ن تى تكوومتى بعدت ح ي ٱلتي ت ل ٱآلثار ه وصإلمك؟

When have You ever been far-off so

that traces may lead to You?

علمها ال ترا مت عم عم رقمبا

Blind be the eye that cannot see

You watching it.

رت صفق عبد لم وخس ح متجعل له م ب ك نص با

Losing is a servant’s deal that does

not dedicate a share to the love for

You.

جوع إلى ي امرت بٱلر إلهٱآلثار

O my God, You have ordered us to

refer to the traces;

عني إلمك سوة فٱرج بكٱالنوار

therefore, (please do) make me

refer to You with the garb of lights

ٱال داي صار ستب وهand the guidance of insight

ع إل نها ك حتى ارج ما مك منهادخلت إلمك م

so that I will return to You in the

same way as I have entered to You

from them

ر ع ٱلنظر مصون ٱلس إلمها

as being too protected to look at

them

م ومرفوع ٱله عاعتماد علمه ٱال

and too determining to depend

upon them,

ير إنك على كل شيء قدfor You have power over all things.

ي هذا ذل ي ظ إله ر بم اهيديك

O my God, this is my humiliation; it

manifests itself before You.

ك فى علم وهذا حالي ال يخ This is my manner; it cannot be

concealed against You.

نك اطلب ٱلوص ول إلمك مFrom You do I beseech soaring to

You

ل ع لمك وبك استدand through You do I take the way

to You.

ني بنور إلمك فٱهدSo, (please do) guide me to You

through Your Light

دق ي واقمني بص ٱلعبود يديك بم

and make me stand up before Your

Hands with the true servitude to

You.

ك لم ع ي عل مني م إلهٱلمخزون

O my God, (please do) teach me

from Your veiled knowledge

تر ٱلمصون وصن ي بسand protect me with Your shielding

shelter.

ي حق قني بحقائق اهل إلهٱلقرب

O my God, (please do) grant me the

realities that are enjoyed by the

people who are near to You

ك اهل وٱسلك بي مسل ٱلجذب

and make me follow the course of

the people who are attracted to

You.

ي اغنني بت ل إله ي دبمري تدبمر ع

O my God, make Your management

of my affairs replace my

management of my affairs,

ع يوبٱختمار ٱختمارmake Your choice for me replace

my choice for myself,

ز واوقفني على مراكي رار ٱضط

and make me stop at the points of

emergency.

جني م ي اخر ذل إلهي نفس

O my God, (please do) take my out

of the humiliation of myself

ش رني م ي وطه ك ي رك وش

and purify me from my suspicion

and polytheism

يقبل حلول رمس before I enter my grave.

ر فٱن صرنيبك انتصOnly through You do I achieve

victory; so, (please do) give me

victory.

ل وعلمك اتوك نيل فال تكOnly upon You do I rely; so, do not

refer me to anyone else.

اسال فال ي تخم بن وإياOnly You do I beseech; so, do not

disappoint me.

وفي فضلك ارغب فال مني تحر

Only for Your favors do I desire; so,

do not deprive me (of Your favors).

ب فال وبجنابك انت سدني تبع

Only to Your side do I resort; so, do

not set me aside.

يال تطردن وببابك اقف ف At Your door only do I stand; so, do

not drive me away.

ي تقدس ر ان إله ضال نك يكون له ع م

O my God, Your pleasure is too

sanctified to receive a defect from

You;

ن فكمف يكون ل ل م ي؟ه عhence, how can it receive a defect

from me?

ي انت ٱلغني ن بذاتك اإلهل إلمك ٱلن نك يص فع م

O my God, You are too self-

sufficient by Yourself to be

benefited by Yourself;

ي؟ غنم ا عن فكمف ال تكون hence, how can You not be self-

sufficient from me?

ي إن ٱلقضاء وٱلقدر إلهيمن مني

O my God, fate awakens my hope

وإن ٱلهوى بوثائق ٱلشهوة اسرني

and whim has enchained me with

the firm chains of lust;

انت ٱلنص مر ليفكso, (please do) be my Supporter

رنيي وتبص حتى تنصرن so that You shall back me and

show me the right path.

ك واغنني بفضل And (please do) help me (to

dispense with anyone else) through

Your favors

حتى استغني بك عطلبي

so that I shall depend upon You

exclusively in my requests.

ي اشرق ت ٱالنوار انت ٱلذئك في قلوب اولما

It is You Who have lit the

illuminations in the hearts of Your

intimate servants

و حتى عرفو دو وحso that they have recognized and

testified Your Oneness.

ي ازلت ٱالغمار وانت ٱلذبا قلوب اح ئك ع

It is You Who have removed love for

others from the hearts of Your

lovers

ب حتى لم يح وا وٱ سso that they have loved none save

You

ولم يلجاوٱ إلى غمرand they have resorted to none

save You.

م انت ٱلمؤنس له You alone are entertaining them

ٱلعوالم حمث اوحشتهم when they have felt lonely because

of the other worlds.

ي هدي تهم وانت ٱلذYou alone have guided them

الم لهم ٱلمع حمث ٱستبانت so that all other worlds manifested

themselves before them.

فق ؟ماذا وجد م دWhat can one who misses You find

any substitute?

ي فقد م ؟وما ٱلذ وجدWhat can one who finds You miss

anything else?

ي دونك رض لقد خاب مبدال

Definitely, failing is he who has

accepted anyone other than You as

substitute.

بغى عنك ر م ولقد خسال متحو

Definitely, loser is he who have

desired for anyone other than You.

كمف يرجى س واHow can anyone other than You be

hoped

حسان؟وانت ما قطعت ٱ إلwhilst You have never stopped Your

bounties?

وكمف يطلب م غمرHow can anyone other than You be

besought

وانت ما بدلت عادة ؟ٱال متنان

whilst You have never changed

Your habit of ceaseless bestowal?

باءه حالوة اذاق اح يا م ٱلمؤانس

O He Who has made His lovers the

sweet taste of entertainment;

يد يه متمل ق فقاموٱ بم مtherefore, they have stood up

before Him flattering Him!

البس او لماءه ويا ممالبس همبته

O He Who has dressed His intimate

servants the garments of fearing

Him;

يد يه مستغف فقاموٱ بم ي رtherefore, they have stood before

Him seeking His forgiveness!

ر قب انت ٱلذاك ي ر ل ٱلذاكYou do mention the others (with

bounties) before they mention You.

ب حسان وانت ٱلباد ٱإله ٱل قبل توج ي عابد

You do spread Your compassion

before the worshippers direct

towards You.

ل لعطاء قب وانت ٱلجواد بٱ بم طلب ٱلطال

You do give generously before You

are asked.

لما وهبت وانت ٱلوهاب ثم ٱلمستقر لنا م م ض

You do bestow upon us and then

borrow from us that which You

have bestowed upon us.

ي ٱطلبني ب رحمتك إلهل إلم ك حتى اص

O my God, (please do) refer to me

with Your mercy so that I will

appear before You.

بني بمن ك حتى اقبل وٱجذعلمك

(Please do) draw me towards You

through Your endless favoring so

that I will advance to You.

ي إن رجائي ع إله ال ينقطتك عنك وإن عصم

O my God, verily, my hope for You

does not cease despite that I may

disobey You.

زايلنيكما ان خوفي ال ي وإن اطعتك

Similarly, my fear from You does

not leave me even if I obey You.

مك ٱلعوالم إل فقد دفعتني The Worlds have pushed me

towards You

ك ي بكرم لم وقد اوقعني ععلمك

and my acquaintance with Your

magnanimity has led me to You.

مب ي كمف اخ وانت إلهاملي؟

O my God, how can I fail whilst You

are my hope?

لمك ام كمف اهان وع متكلي؟

How can I be humiliated whilst I

depend upon You?

ي كمف است ز وفي إله ع اركزتن ل ي؟ٱلذ

How can see dignity if You fix me

in humiliation?

ز وإلمك ام كمف ال استعنسبتني؟

How can I not see dignity whilst

You have referred me to You?

ي كمف ال اف ت تقر وان إلهي في ٱلفقر ؟اء اقمتنيٱلذ

O my God, how can I not be needy

whilst it is You Who have lodged

me among the needy?

يام كمف افتقر وانت ٱلذ اغنمت ني؟بجود

How can I be needy whilst You

have made me rich out of Your

magnanimity?

ي ال إل وانت ٱلذ ه غمرIt is You, there is no god save You,

فت لكل شيء فما تعرلك شيء جه

Who have introduced Yourself to all

things; therefore, nothing has ever

ignored You.

ي تعر في فت إلي وانت ٱلذكل شيء

It is You Who have introduced

Yourself to me in all things;

را في كل فرايتك ظاهشيء

therefore, I have seen You Manifest

in all things.

ر لك ل شيء وانت ٱلظاهIt is You Who give manifestation to

all things.

ٱستوى ب ه رحمانمت يا مO He Who is firm in power through

His All-beneficence;

مبا في فصار ٱلعرش غ ذاته

therefore, the Throne has become

unseen in His Essence.

ثار محقت ٱآلثار بٱآلYou have erased the traces by the

traces;

ومحوت ٱالغمار مطات افال ٱالنوار بمح

and You have erased the

changeable by the surroundings of

the orbits of lights.

ٱحتجب ف ي يا مقات عرش ه سراد

O He Who has screened Himself in

the curtains of His Throne;

كه ٱال ان تدر بصار عhence, He cannot be

comprehended by visions!

تجلى ب ه كمال بهائ يا مO He Who has manifested Himself

with His perfect Magnificence;

فتحققت عظ مته مستواء ٱال

therefore, His Grandeur of being

firm in power.

ر كمف تخفى و ؟انت ٱلظاهHow can You be hidden whilst You

are the Manifester (of all things)?

مب و انت ام كمف تغر قمب ٱلحاض ؟ٱلر

Or how can You be absent whilst You

are the Watcher (over all things) and

the Present (at all times).

ير إنك على كل شيء قدVerily, You have power over all

things.

و حده وٱلحمد للAll praise be to Allah alone.

د وآل اللهم صل على محمد محم

O Allah, (please do) send blessings

to Muhammad and the Household

of Muhammad
