Dyslexia
“It is important to understand that dyslexia is an ailment one is born with and
dyslexic people are not stupid or lazy, but are actually highly intelligent.”
Dyslexia or developmental reading disorder is a difficulty with learning to read
due to a problem with identifying speech sounds and reading letters and words. A
number of children suffer from dyslexia but a large majority go unidentified as
there are not many qualified professionals who can identify a dyslexic child or
even an adult.
Being dyslexic is nothing but having a developmental reading disorder because of
which a person finds it difficult to learn to read fluently and comprehend
accurately despite having an IQ which is normal or above-average. When a child
struggles with reading, his life can be hard. The ability or rather the inability to
read directly affects every aspect of his life, including his self-confidence. Visit
your nearest Apollo clinic to get your child professionally tested and seek
guidance for dyslexia.
It is important to understand that dyslexia is an ailment one is born with and
dyslexic people are not stupid or lazy, but are actually highly intelligent. Research
shows that dyslexics use a different part of the brain than non-dyslexic’s which
makes them read everything in reverse, especially phonemes.
One way to manage dyslexia is by establishing a reading pattern and helping
children understand speech sounds (sound of every letter) of the words. It is
followed by combining these sounds and blending them into a word, which is
followed by building images or ideas to memorise and understand the word and
its meaning. Several such words are then combined to form a sentence finally.
The help of a trained teacher who has experience with teaching dyslexic students
should be taken to teach kids how to spell and read better. Family and friends of
the dyslexic must remember that dyslexia is not an eye problem that can be cured
with glasses or lenses.
The source of dyslexia lies in the brain, children do not outgrow dyslexia but with
a lot of hard work they can do better in life.
