Enhancing Self‐learning Ability through Information Technology

95.         The Government will launch the Fourth 

Strategy on Information Technology in Education 

this year.  Major initiatives include the phased 

provision of wireless network services and other 

supporting facilities for all public sector schools 

from the 2014/15 school year.

Strategy on IT in Education (1/2)

One of the key tasks is the phased provision of WiFi facilities in

about 1 000 public sector schools and local schools under the

Direct Subsidy Scheme (DSS) in order to facilitate more

diversified teaching and learning in class.

Through the use of mobile learning devices, students can learn

anytime at anywhere in the schools and can make use of the

various information and interactive functions in the Internet to

unleash their creativity, construct knowledge and strengthen

self‐directed learning so as to become life‐long learners with

It started with a simple observation: Students need their teachers present to answer questions or to provide help if they get stuck on an assignment; they don't need their teachers present to listen to a lecture or review content.

From there, Jonathan Bergmann and Aaron Samsbegan the flipped classroom: Students watched recorded lectures for homework and completed their assignments, labs, and tests in class with their teacher available. Bergmann and Samsfound that their students demonstrated a deeper understanding of the material than ever before. Learn what a flipped classroom is and why it works, and get the information you need to flip your own classroom.

Minisite – Video Resource Pack on Chemistry Practical Skills (1/2)

Chemistry is a practical oriented discipline of science. In the NSS Chemistry and Combined Science (Chemistry Part) curricula, students are expected to develop understanding of various experimental techniques and chemical analyses through different learning and teaching activities. Other than real‐time demonstration and hands‐on experience in practical lessons, instruction in mode of multimedia can also serve as a useful tool to familiarise students with the experimental techniques and methods.

Minisite – Video Resource Pack on Chemistry Practical Skills (2/2)

The videos included here have demonstrated the procedures of the selected experimental methods supplementing with the simple theoretical description. They can be used by students for familiarising themselves with the corresponding experimental techniques and methods before conducting experiments, practical tests of School‐based Assessment and the investigative study, as well as used by teachers for teaching and pre‐experiment instruction.
