Our motto is Learning Together. Earl Beatty Public Schooloffers stimulating academic and enrichment programs forstudents in JK to Grade 8. The school's motto is "LearningTogether." The word Learning reflects our school’s focus on highacademic standards and on helping students reach their fullpotential. The word Together reflects our collaborative culturewhere students, teachers, parents and community members workas a team. The mission of the school is "To build the best withinourselves and find the good within each other". We are home toBeatty Buddies Daycare and the City of Toronto Parks andRecreation Earl Beatty Community Centre. 

Safe and Caring SchoolsThe staff and families at Earl Beattyhave worked together to establish asafe and caring environment at theschool. Our code of conduct is basedon our motto of Learning Togetherand outlines expectations for studentconduct. These expectations alignwith the TDSB character education qualities that we focus on inour daily announcements and monthly assemblies. Teachers usethe TDSB Character Development Resource Guide to developcommon understandings and approaches to living and learningtogether.

Full Day KindergartenOur Full Day Learning program is a child-centred, inquiry andactivity based program that reflects the developmental needs ofyoung children. Classroom activities and challenges are modified tomeet the individual needs of each learner. 

TechnologyOur classrooms are always filled with students who are usingtechnology as a tool to explore the curriculum. We have worked withour parents to fund portable Smartboards, iPads, and laptops whichare being used in our classes. Our school is also now equipped withwifi! We use our school blogs, twitter, and our website tocommunicate effectively with our community.

Sports at Earl BeattyStudents at our school have many opportunities to participate inathletic activities. In the fall, over 200 students from grades 1 to 6take part in our cross country running program. Over the years, ourteachers have coached a wide variety of teams that compete withother schools in the TDSB. In the spring, students in grades 2 to 8participate in track and field events.

Arts at Earl BeattyThe Arts play an important role at Earl Beatty. All homeroomteachers follow the Ontario Visual Arts curriculum and the studentsproduce fabulous works of visual art each year. In addition, there isa strong focus on Music with two concerts each year - Holiday andSpring.

Student Life - Where You Belong

Earl Beatty is a very busy place. Students have manyopportunities to participate in the life of the school in avariety of ways. As well as our sports teams, students canbe part of many clubs, including folk dance, homework club,karate club, games, math, leadership, and environment club.Every year we have our Terry Fox event and TeamBuilding Play Days. Classes are out of the school on fieldtrips regularly to places in and around the city. Our studentsreceive swimming instruction in our pool. Many classesmake regular use of the neighbourhood public library.Students in grades 4 and up are all offered the opportunityto take on leadership roles in the school. These studentshelp out in the office, do announcements, assist thecaretaker with recycling, assist in the library and engageyounger children at play during recess and help with pizzalunches.

What Sets Us Apart

The very strong partnership of staff and parents workingtogether makes Earl Beatty an excellent learningenvironment for students. Our parents volunteer in theschool in many capacities; in classrooms, to read withstudents, prepare materials and work with children when aScientist or Artist is in the Classroom. They also volunteer inthe library and provide supervision and support on field trips.Parents are integral to the successful of the school. Underthe umbrella of the School Advisory Council, many parentsactively serve on a variety of committees includingEnvironment, Fundraising, Arts, and the KindergartenAdvisory Committee. Our Community Centre After Schoolprogram is a joint effort of school, community centre andparents and provides enrichment opportunities for ourstudents. Parents also organize and run a number offundraisers which support enrichment opportunities for ourstudents.

Parent and Community Engagement

Parents are involved in supporting the school through the EarlBeatty School Advisory Council (EBSAC). EBSAC advises theadministration on school programs and policies and is composed ofparents, staff and community members. EBSAC is also responsiblefor fund raising which supports enrichment programs such asLearning through the Arts, Scientist in the School and school wideperformances. EBSAC has also purchased technology such asSmartboards, Mobis, and Mimios to enhance classroom instruction.They also supported the wifi connectivity of our school. The EBSACalso organizes social events throughout the year that build a strongcommunity feeling. Holiday in the Hood, Enchantment under theStairs, and the yearly Fun Fair are some examples. These eventsare very well attended and we anticipate more of the same in thecoming year.

Imagine a TDSB where all schools share a common core set of characteristics. They arecommunity-driven and focused on teaching and learning. Students and parents have a wide variety ofopportunities and there are enough students in every school to increase program choices. Imagine there is a clear focus on achieving student success and every student is engaged, has a voice,access to a caring adult and the opportunity to develop their full potential. Here at the TDSB our focus is on student achievement, parent and community engagement and financialstability.
