* Species are listed taxonomically by family and genera, and include naming authorities. 4
- Species listed as nr (near) share many of the same character states as the named species 5
but have at least one key character divergent, and are therefore likely a different species. 6
5
- Species listed as cf (confirm) are likely the named species, but cannot be confirmed from 7
the literature alone (i.e., species description is poor or ambiguous). 8
- Species listed as sp. are undescribed species that may have been previously sampled and 9
known from other records but do not match any current descriptions in the literature. 10
⁑ Known distributions are based on Behan-Pelletier and Lindo (2019) as well as specimens in the 11
personal collections of the author based on extensive sampling in coastal British Columbia (BC), 12
and any recorded specimens observed in the curated collections at the Canadian National 13
Collections of Insects, Arachnids and Nematodes in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. 14
- Records for State, Provinces and Territories are abbreviated and in the following order, 15
trending from northwest to east: AK: Alaska; YT: Yukon; NT: Northwest Territories; 16
NU: Nunavut; BC: British Columbia; AB: Alberta; SK: Saskatchewan; MB: Manitoba; 17
ON: Ontario; QC: Québec; NB: New Brunswick; NS: Nova Scotia; NL: Newfoundland; 18
PE: Prince Edward Island. 19
- When listed as “BC”, this includes records from non-coastal parts of the province as well 20
as potentially coastal areas. 21
- When listed as “coastal BC”, records are only from coastal temperate rainforest habitats 22
along the west coast of the province. 23
- Species listed as ‘undescribed species’ are designated as sp. but have previously been 24
recorded from BC prior to this study based on comparisons of specimens held within 25
taxonomic collections. 26
- Species listed as “probably new species” are species designated as sp. that have not been 27
previously recorded from BC prior to this study based on comparisons of specimens held 28
within taxonomic collections. 29
- Species listed as ‘--’ lack sufficient taxonomic knowledge to assess. 30
§ Punctoribates ezoensis Fujikawa 1982 is very similar to Punctoribates punctum (C.L. Koch, 31
1839) that has been recorded as having a disjunct and ‘curious’ distribution in North America; it 32
has been recorded from the west coast of Canada (coastal BC) and the Atlantic maritime regions 33
(NB, NS, NL) (Behan-Pelletier and Eamer, 2008). It is likely that P. punctum previously found 34
in coastal BC is actually P. ezoensis. 35
