Introduction
This document provides chief state school officers, international education coordinators, and theircolleagues with a state-by-state listing of documents designed to assist public schools in bringing aninternational perspective into their curricula. These publications are a result of International Dimensions
of Education: Position Paper and Recommendations for Action, the 1985 position paper of the Council ofChief State School Officers (CCSSO), which focuses on four areas: CommuniLation Skills, InternationalEducation, Cross National Comparisons of Educational Data, and Exchange of Educational Practices.
The documents listed in this publication, developed for the most part since 1985, illustrate a widerange of resources related to the themes in the CCSSO position paper. They include internationaleducation documents demonstrating how to integrate international education into the K-I2 curriculum, world language guides to assist local school systems in teaching second languages, manuals for exchange
programs with other nations, curriculum guides on specific nations, and state mandates for global/international studies and courses, as well as state task force reports on international education.
These documents also reflect survey responses shown in a 1992 CCSSO report, International Educa-
tion: A Survey of State International Education Coordinators, which illustrates the progress that has beenmade since the 1985 Study Commission, as well as the strong efforts that we must undertake if we are tohave an internationally literate society in the 21st century.
This directory is organized alphabetically by states and extra-state jurisdictions. Each entry providesthe name, address, and phone number of the international education coordinator, followed by the statedocuments that relate to international education. Five categories characterize the various documents: (1)curriculum, (2) policies, (3) publications, (4) projects/programs, and (5) videos.
