IntroductionThejurisdictionoftheAssemblyPrivacyandConsumerProtectionCommitteespansawiderangeoftechnology-relatedissues,andincludesmattersaffectingconsumerprotectioninboththedigitalandanalogworlds.Specifically,theCommitteehasjurisdictionovermattersrelatedtoprivacy,theprotectionofpersonalinformation(includingdigitalinformation),thesecurityofdata,andinformationtechnology,aswellasfalseadvertising,charitablesolicitations,weightsandmeasures,andconsumerprotectiongenerally.TheCommitteeisalsoresponsibleforoversightoftheDepartmentofTechnologywithintheState'sGovernmentOperationsAgency.Duringthe2015Legislativeyear,theCommitteeheldatotalof11hearings,consistingofeightbillhearings,aninformationalhearingoncybersecuritywiththeSelectCommitteeonCybersecurity,anoversighthearingontheDepartmentofTechnology'simplementationofCalCloudwiththeAssemblyAccountabilityandAdministrativeReviewCommittee,andafirst-of-its-kindinformationalhearingabouttheCommitteeitselfheldonlineinconjunctionwiththesocialmediawebsiteReddit.com.
