Edmodo.com is a newer website that is like Facebook. This site is being used for educators and their
students. Why I say it is like Facebook is that the teacher creates the page and has the students create a
free account that they use all year. This website allows the teacher to communicate effectively with her
students. Also, students can communicate with one another as well. Edmodo is a free site that is not
only found on the computer, but also there is an app that students can download to their smart phones.
This website has several uses that ensure that the teachers and students do not have any
miscommunication. The teacher of course assigns assignments in the classroom, but after the school day
they can get on the computer and login to their account and post what exactly the class did such as
discussion, new material covered, issues that were raised during the lecture as well as what the
homework was again, because we all know that there are always students who forget and just plainly
don’t want to write anything down. The teacher is also able to answer any questions the students might
have once they get home and start working on their homework. If the teacher doesn’t respond, another
student who might be online might be able to respond to the student who is having the trouble with the
assignment. The teacher can set reminders as well on the site to make sure that the students always
know when assignments are due so they have no excuse of not remembering or forgetting. There is a
calendar that the teacher can make and post on Edmodo. They can put when papers are due as well as
due dates of assignments. This would be a good thing for students who like to stay ahead of the game so
they do not fall behind in the class. This is also a positive thing if a student would be sick one day and
not know what was covered in class that day.
Edmodo is a website that again not only is there communication between the teacher and the class, but
the students have a way to get ahold of one another. This would be nice if the teacher were to assign a
group project. The group and use Edmodo to message eachother if actually meeting up wouldn’t be able
to happen. Students don’t always like to ask the teacher first for help. They like to ask their peers if they
know what they don’t about an assignment. This is beneficial because they can message another
student individually that way they wouldn’t feel embarrassed.
