Edu-Canada was created with four key pillars:
coordinate the efforts of Canadian missions abroad in education promotion;
facilitate relations and resource development between provinces, NGOs and Canadian missions abroad;
promote Canadian education at signature events; coordinate a consistent brand and strategy.
Edu-Canada is part of the International Education and Youth Division and aligns its efforts with other DFAIT programs such as scholarships and Canadian studies.

International StudentsWhy international mobility matters
Enriched learning and research with international perspectives;
Future partners in trade, political relations and global leadership;
International students contribute an estimated $5 billion in Canada annually through tuition, living expenses, travel while in Canada and visits from family abroad (2004 estimate);
International students can work off-campus while studying, to fill critical labour market gaps in regions and economic sectors in Canada;
International students in Canada are a desirable source of potential immigrants to fill skills shortages in Canadian communities;
Researchers and faculty on exchanges can be recruited to fill places left by retiring faculty at post-secondary institutions.
