EEO OUTREACH ACTIVITIES

April 1, 2011 through April 1, 2012

During the period addressed in this report, the licensee had no full-time openings. The unit is required to complete four initiatives during a two year period. It has selected the following initiatives:

Participate in other activities than the ones listed that the licensee has designed to further the goal of disseminating information about employment opportunities.

Provide training to management level personnel as to methods of ensuring equal employment opportunity and preventing discrimination. The unit held two “Open House” events during the period which were designed to introduce people to the radio broadcasting field with the hope that qualified candidates will submit resumes for potential, future job openings. The first open house was held on June 29, 2011 at WLKI, Angola. No one came to the first open house as the unit had no openings. The second open house was held August 19, 2011 at WBET, Sturgis, Michigan. No one attended because there were no current openings. The unit also sponsored a job fair on June 29, 2011 at WBET, Sturgis, Michigan. No one attended as there were no full-time job openings.

The unit conducts management training to ensure equal employment opportunity and to prevent discrimination. This period, the station owner has reviewed Chapters 4, 5 and 6 of the book “EEO Personnel Practices and the Law”, by Arthur Gutman, and has developed a reading/study schedule for other management personnel. During this period, the general manager read chapters 7 and 8 of the book. Every 6 months, the unit sends out press releases to a variety of local and national organizations seeking assistance with its recruitment and outreach efforts. It also broadcasts the press releases on all of its stations. Over the past several years, the unit has held job fairs and also added an Open House event to further the unit’s success in its EEO initiatives. These stations operate in small markets and there are few, full-time job openings.
