Series-Parallel Circuits

Circuits having components in both Series and Parallel connection have some basic relationships that provide a simple solution.

Kirchhoff’s Voltage Law

For a ‘closed loop’, the sum of voltages is zero

For this circuit, – VT = V1 + V2 + V3

“Around a closed loop, the algebraic sum of all the voltages is zero.”

Kirchhoff’s Current Law “The current entering any point in a circuit

is equal to the current leaving that same point.”

Solving Series-Parallel Circuits

Use a combination of Kirchhoff’s laws, and resistor calculations we can solve the circuit
