From JFK New York we landed first at Cairo and transferred to a smaller jet to Aswan. The next day we took a prop-jet to El Simbel returning to Aswan in the afternoon.

Statues are 67 ft tall. With the higher water level of Lake Nasser, from the 2nd Aswan Dam, the temple was dismantled and reassembled 200 ft higher with its original orientation to the sun.

Decision was made to leave Egypt six days after arrival.

Here we are getting on the charter plane middle eastern style: Take a bus from the airline terminal to waiting plane parked far out on the tarmac.

Our charter aircraft is unmarked except for the small Jordanian flag.The “stewards” all carried guns.
