DESCRIPTION

These are just a few little Marketo tips and tricks I wish I'd know when I was starting out using it. I originally presented this deck at a Marketo User Group meetup in Vancouver, on October 30th, 2014. Video recording: https://vimeo.com/110836645 Ping me @misha_abasov if you want to chat about it.

Eight Marketo Tips for Power Users

(the little things I wish I’d known from day one)

• Does cloning programs take more than five minutes?

• Did you have to update dozens of forms to comply with CASL?

• Do you dread re-approving landing pages after templates change?

• Do you have smart campaigns so complex that they make you anxious?

A few questions

The point of automation is to do less manual work, including the work you do maintaining

your automation tools.

1. Use tags in asset names. You can use titles of programs, lists, and forms to group and categorize assets. Trigger smart campaigns based on the tags.

Form (NOAUTOSDR, NONURTURE)If filled out, skip nurturing and sales automation.

2. Sequence smart campaigns.Break down complex smart campaigns into smaller ones. Then tie them together to get insights into how they perform.

3. Customize program statuses.Make your reporting your own by specifying what program statuses you use and how you use them.

Can be found under Admin > Tags

4. Segment your lead database.Segment your leads by buying stages, personas, pain points and whatever else you want. Next, personalize.

5. Employ consistent naming.Simple naming conventions can be really helpful. Save time searching for assets and reporting on groups of programs.

6. Sync Marketo & Salesforce. You’re probably syncing your lead database. But what about your programs/campaigns and progression statuses?

Synced reporting, members, success conditions; everything.

7. Make use of static lists.Make them your permanent record of program membership. Personalize nurturing based on them.

DL lists track every lead who’s downloaded a piece of content.

8. Reuse forms.Do you really need a unique form for every program and landing page you have? Probably not.

“Universal Content” formLives in the Design Studio; is used across 100+ pages.

Thanks! How else can I help you?
