Electron transport

This ones not ad hard….but ill still explain it….b/c its kind of confusing….. :-/

• Electrons removed from glycolysis and the Krebs cycle are the first to enter by NADH

• Takes placed in the mitochondria.

• 1) NADH transfers e- to flavinmononucleotide.

2) e- is than transferred to iron-sulfur protein.

3) e- is transferred to ubiquinone.

4) e- is carried between Q and oxygen, which is transferred to cytochrome (all cytochromeshave heme (iron prosthetic group like that of hemoglobin) )

5) e- is than transferred to iron-sulfur protein.

• 6) e- transferred to cyt-c1 => cyt-c => cyt-a => cyt-a3

7) e- transferred to oxygen (1/2 O2) but also picks up a pair of hydrogen ions from the aqueous solution to form water.

Oxidative phosphorylation

• ATP is synthesized by ADP.

• Hydrogen ions than flow back down their gradient, due to ATP syntheses.

• The hydrogen ions continue to pass and making ADP transform into ATP.

• The final total is 34 ATP.
