EMF DO #1 Post Activity Discussion1. Describe how your model system demonstrated the magnetic force

strength in the field.2. Did lines of force cross each other in your model system? Explain. 3. Were you able to visually see the polar direction of magnetic force in

the lines of iron filings? 4. How did the iron filing patterns show attractive forces between

magnetic poles?5. How did the iron filing patterns show repulsive forces between

magnetic poles? 6. Use the direction of magnetic force shown on your diagrams to

explain why the magnetic fields repelled or attracted.

EMF DO #1 Post Activity Discussion1. Describe how your model system demonstrated the magnetic force

strength in the field. The iron filings packed close together where the strength of the magnetic force was the strongest (near the poles and near the magnet). 2. Did lines of force cross each other in your model system? Explain. No, the iron filings tended to form lines that were next to each other but did not cross each other.3. Were you able to visually see the polar direction of magnetic force in

the lines of iron filings? No, direction had to be assumed.

EMF DO #1 Post Activity Discussion4. How did the iron filing patterns show attractive forces between magnetic

poles?Iron filings were present and lined up. 5. How did the iron filing patterns show repulsive forces between magnetic

poles? Iron filings were not present and pushed away. 6. Use the direction of magnetic force shown on your diagrams to explain why

the magnetic fields repelled or attracted. If poles align and are alike, they repel; if they are opposite, they attract.
