• UN Framework Convention on Climate Change 1992
• Kyoto Protocol 1997– quantitative emission reduction targets for
developed countries for 2008-2012• A future climate regime after 2012
– been negotiated under 2 tracks:• the convention track (AWG-LCA) since Bali
COP13• the Kyoto track (AWG-KP)
– Copenhagen, Dec 2009– Cancún, Dec 2010– Durban, Dec 2011 establishes new track (ADP)

The Doha Outcome• Kyoto Protocol (KP)
– finalize the rules for a second commitment period
– secure operation from 1 January 2013– strive for a swift ratification after Doha
• Long-term cooperative action (LCA)– continue implementation: adaptation,
technology, transparency (MRV), finance (GCF, SC), avoided deforestation, new mkt mechanisms, review, pledges etc.
– close the AWG-LCA track• Durban Plattform (ADP)
– take steps forward towards the 2015 agreement– raise ambition before 2020, close the gap to 2
degrees
