DOK had been around since the mid 90’s as a model for increasing cognitive complexity. Each level represents the level of complexity needed to respond correctly to a specific task or assessment. As an informal rule, Level’s 1 and 2 could be tested via a multiple choice test. Levels 3 and 4 would need to be measured against performance criteria with multiple answers / alternative performances possible.
