over 65• 40% of working age Kiwis have
poor literacy• 20% of working age Kiwis have
English as a second language• 20% have one or more disabilities

• Do your homework – plan for inclusion• Listen to people who face barriers, and to their
organisations• Don’t make assumptions• Know the difference between organisations “of”
and “for” and their different interests and politics• Capacity building may be needed• Advisory and reference groups may not be the
only answer
