Objectives:• To develop writing skills• To enhance one’s skills in reading and literary

appreciation• At the end of the course you will develop listening

and speaking skills• To master English grammar and to use the basic

language structures in oral and written communication with high proficiency level

FIRST GRADING PERIOD

• Analyzing the story using the story grammar techniques• Identifying the simple parts of a simple sentence• Identifying different sentence patterns• Identifying the patterns of coordination• Listening to describe the speaker’s attitude• Comparing subordinate adverbial and adjectival clause• Identifying figures of speech• Identifying patterns of subordination• Forming the present tense and present perfect tense• Identifying propaganda strategies used in advertisements

SECOND GRADING PERIOD

• Writing different types of discourse• Recognizing agreement of subject and verb• Asking for permission to visit an establishment, asking for

directions, expressing dissatisfaction in a letter• Picking out the elements that distinguish drama as a

literary form, explaining dramatic devices• Expressing agreement and disagreement• Interpreting figurative language used• Spotting markers of cohesion and identifying their

functions• Asking for or giving information about an invention in a

letter

THIRD GRADING PERIOD• Showing the relationship between the main idea and the

significant details• Writing a personal narrative to support an assertion• Gathering data using library resources• Using simple future and the future perfect tense• Discussing the important elements of a play• Using different tenses of a the verb• Predicting outcomes in a fable• Using the active and passive voices of the verb• Summarizing and writing reactions to stories or books read• Identifying infinitives• Identifying gerunds

FOURTH GRADING PERIOD• Writing logical definitions that are complete and objective• Appreciating literary styles and techniques especially in Asian

literature• Determining the social issues in a talk and identifying the

speaker’s attitude• Understanding the meanings of and using different idiomatic

expressions• Appreciating some forms of poetic structures• Recognizing and expressing main ideas and irrelevant ideas• Identifying the derivation of words through word creation• Drawing conclusions from inferences based on events or

situations described
