• Core Data Services are SAP’s strategic modeling approach for Business

Entities

• SAP HANA Views get created from scripted ABAP code

• High flexibility for further multiple use cases (e.g. Search, …)

• Scripted (SQL + extensions)

• Fully integrated with ABAP: Lifecycle, Authorization Management,…

Big Data: the 3 V

The children of Google

What is Hadoop?

At Google, operations are run on a special file system called Google File System (GFS) that

is highly optimized for this purpose.

Doug Cutting and Yahoo! reverse engineered the GFS and called it Hadoop Distributed File

System (HDFS).

The software framework that supports HDFS, MapReduce and other related entities is called

the project Hadoop or simply Hadoop.

This is open source and distributed by Apache.

HADOOP: the secret behind Big Data

Hadoop and Hana are complementary

HANA is for the “known-knowns”

Fully managed reporting source

Used to deliver known facts effectively to a wide

range of users

Hadoop is for the “unknown-unknowns”

Investigation for deeper insight

Use analytical tools to discover

Cheap, runs on commodity hardware

Big Data in action

We have seen a lot of things today

The SAP applications for Business Intelligence are still there, and part of the roadmap: SAP

BI 4.2, SAP BW 7.5

We can now easily add a lot of information to the ERP and CRM data, thanks to Big Data and

IOT technologies, and get some new intelligence and understanding

The new S/4HANA application already leverages real-time reporting from SAP HANA to

improve greatly the standard ERP reports

All the new information, together with the ERP, CRM, SCM data, help built predictive models

that will allow you to better plan and forecast your business
