PERSPECTIVE OF POULTRY INDUSTRY IN KENYA• Poultry contributes 55% to the livestock and 30 % to the agricultural

sector.• Poultry contributes significantly to the socio-economic and

nutritional needs to an estimate of 21 million people and this contributes 7.8% GDP generated from livestock.

• Poultry represents 3.7% of animal protein consumption in the country.

• Unregulated Market – The prices given to farmers do not commensurate the production cost thus discouraging the smallholder farmers ( middle men and traders exploiting farmers).

• Demand for poultry increasing due to – population growth, urbanization, increase in per capita disposable incomes and Kenyans adopting healthy lifestyle.
