Our Struggle is Not Against Flesh and Blood
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens.
-Ephesians 6:12, NET
We live in a nation which is politically divided and spiritually wayward. Anger and contempt seem to be the almost permanent dispositions of our social discourse. In this climate everyone who does not agree with “me and my side” is an enemy. As Christians we are vulnerable to such thinking, but we must resist it. We must remember the truth explained by the apostle Paul in Ephesians 6: the true struggle is always against the devil and his forces of darkness. Humans, however opposed their ideology and lifestyle may be to ours, are not our enemies. They are our neighbors whom we are called to love as Christ has loved us. We need to remember where the conflict really lies. In the throes of the struggle for civil rights for African Americans, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. frequently reminded people of this reality: “A third characteristic of this method [nonviolence] is that the attack
is directed against forces of evil rather than against persons who happen to be doing the evil. It is evil that the nonviolent resister seeks to defeat, not the persons victimized by evil. If he is opposing racial injustice, the nonviolent resister has the vision to see that the basic tension is not between races. As I like to say to the people in Montgomery: ‘The tension in this city is not between white people and Negro people. The tension is, at bottom, between justice and injustice, between the forces of light and the forces of darkness. And if there is a victory, it will be a victory not merely for fifty thousand Negroes, but a victory for justice and the forces of light. We are out to defeat injustice and not white persons who may be unjust.” [from his 1958 article ‘An Experiment in Love.’]
Church, let us remember that in our times our struggle is not against flesh and blood. Let us resist the temptation to demonize those who disagree with us. Let us walk in Christ’s love and strive to defeat unjust and evil forces by God’s power.
, bro. of Mike K.

The American Heritage Girls troop chartered to BCC officially ended its troop year with a “Drive-In” Style Court of Awards and Bridging Ceremony in the parking lot on June 9.
Seven families out of 12 were present. The girls received their awards and some treats for them and their family. They were greeted with cheers and clapping. The troop has 18 girls, ages 5 -12. Seven girls are bridging to new levels this year (AHG is made up of 5 levels- Pathfinder, Tenderheart, Explorer, Pioneer, and Patriot).
Evelyn Furst and Julie Hoyt completed their God and Family Religious Award. They will be honored at a future worship service. They spent several months learning God’s plan for families.
The troop will be holding Day Camp for two days at BCC late in July. Activities for day camp will include blacksmithing. Also, the troop will be
unable to hold the annual garage sale this year, due to the city just now letting us know that it is a “go” for 2 weeks from now. We will need to come up with ways to replace that money for our Special Camping Fund.
This year is the 25th Anniversary Year for American Heritage Girls, Inc. The program year theme is “Chosen.” This is from the theme packet –
“God carefully and intricately thought through the creation of each person long before He made plans to create the earth. He chose us for a particular time—calling us to a special purpose. God had each person in mind when He hovered over the vast surfaces of the deep waters, and before He added magnificent light to the darkness. Long before we knew Him, He knew us and loved us. What a wonderful blessing to be selected, favored, and hand-picked by God! He shows divine favor upon us and has selected us to be His. God chose His followers to bring glory to His name! God doesn’t make mistakes.”
