CELEB RATES NAVY
BIRTHDAY WITH USNA
The city of Annapolis and the U.S. Naval Academy
rang in the 238th birthday of the U.S. Navy with a
breakfast at the historic Calvert House Oct. 7.
Naval Academy Superintendent Vice Adm. Mike
Miller joined Annapolis Mayor Josh Cohen, Anne
Arundel County Executive Laura Newman, and other
distinguished area leadership in celebrating the close
relationship the Naval Academy and the Navy enjoy in
the Annapolis area.
“Annapolis is in so many ways a Navy town,” said
Cohen. “The Navy gives back to this community in so
many ways, and the midshipmen truly live out the spiritof service.”
Cohen talked about USNA’s many community projects.
The Naval Academy chapter of the Knights of
Columbus joined with the Missionaries of Charity Sept.
29 to perform charity work at the missionaries’ AIDS
Hospice in Washington, D.C.

USNA GIFT SHOP EVENTSLocal artist Joe Barsin of JEB Designs will host a
signing at the USNA Gift Shop inside the Armel-
Leftwich Visitors Center Oct. 26 from 9 a.m. to noon.
The Gift Shop will also host a coffee tasting by
Coffee Beanery from 8 to 11 a.m.
BLUE JACKET CAFEThe Blue Jacket Café is now an MWR Category “C”
Operation and is required to operate without direct
appropriated funding. Sailors assigned to commands
within the Annapolis Complex are approved for Basic
Allowance Subsistence pay in place of a meal chit.
The BJC is only open Monday-Friday from 6:30am to
1:00pm, excluding Federal Holidays, and each item onthe menu is priced separately. A daily lunch special will
be available from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in addition to
the a la carte items. The Coffee Cafe will operate with
the same hours and offers subs, sandwiches, salads,
gourmet coffee beverages and homemade pastries.
