Cubby Compartment Installation Instructions and Operational Notes

ThanksforpurchasingCubbyCompartment.PleasereadtheseinstallationinstructionsintheirentiretyBEFOREyouattempttoinstallCubbyCompartment.CubbyCompartmenthasbeendesignedtoprovideamoreefficientandergonomicstoragesolutionforyourModelSandModelXcubby.We’vecreatedanInstallationVideothatcanbeviewedatwww.evannex.com.IMPORTANT:TheinstallationoftheCubbyCompartmentisverysimpleandrequiresnotoolsorothermaterials.QuickStartInstallationSteps:Step1.Cleanoutyourcubby,beingsurethatallitemsinitareremovedandthattherearcubbywallisclean(seeFigurethatfollows).Youcanusealcoholonapapertoweltocleantherearinteriorwallofthecubby,ifitappearsdirty.

Step2.Removethewhitetapebackingforthemagneticplate(calleda“keeper”)asshowninFiguretotheright.BesurethekeeperiscenteredonthesmallcylindricalmagnetontheouterrearwalloftheCubbyCompartment.Step3.SlidetheCubbyCompartmentintothecubbyandpressthefrontofCubbyCompartmenttowardthefrontofthevehiclesothatthekeeperadherestothebackinteriorwallofthecubby.

Step4.PulltheCubbyCompartmentout(seeOperationalNotesbelow)andpressthekeeperwithyourfingerstoensureatightbondontherearinteriorwallofthecubby.IfforsomereasonthekeeperdidnotadhereinStep3,pressitinplacebyhandinthecenteroftherearcubbywall.Step5.SlideyourCubbyCompartmentintothecubby,andyourinstallationiscomplete.OperationalNotes:OvertheyearssincetheModelSwasintroducedtothemarket,Teslahasmadeanumberofsmallchangestothecubbyconfiguration,resultinginsmallvariationsinthecubbygeometry.Theseincludeadifferentrubber/foambasematerialandslightmodificationstothealuminumtrimgeometryonsomeversionsofModelS.ThesesmallvariationscanaffectthemannerinwhichCubbyCompartmentslidesintoandoutofthecubbyopening.Todate,theModelXcubbycharacteristicshaveremainedunchanged.GiventhesesmallvariationsforModelS,pleasenoteitems1and2below:

1. IfyouexperiencedifficultyremovingtheCubbyCompartment,pressdowngentlyonthehandlewhilepullingoutward.TheCubbyCompartmentshouldsliderightout.

2. Ifyoucontinuetoexperiencedifficultyremovingthecubby,youmayownaModelSwithacubbythathasaoddrubberbaseorfoamconfiguration(seeFigurebelow).Itmaybethatyou’llhavetotrimthematerialslightlytoallowtheCubbyCompartmenttoslideproperly.ToaccomplishthisuseanExactoknifeoranindustrialrazorbladeandtrimtherubberizedfoam(dashedline)tothelevelofthehardplasticcubbyedge(solidline).

Inaddition,pleasenotethesegenericoperationnotes:

3. Themagneticholdmechanism(thecylindricalmagnetandkeeper)hasbeendesignedtokeepthecubbyinplaceinmostdrivingconditions.However,underveryheavyacceleration(think:“insane”or“ludicrous”modes),theCubbyCompartmentwillslideoutward.

4. TheCubbyCompartmenthasbeendesignedtoslidecompletelyoutofthecubbywithnostops.ThishasbeendonetoensureeasyaccesstoallitemsinyourCubbyCompartment;forcleaningoftheCubbyCompartment,andtokeepinstallationsimpleandproductcostmanageable.
