Puri is a popular destination in Odisha and famous as the Abode of

Lord Jagannath.

The town is not only famous for temples but also houses very beautiful handicrafts, palm leaf painting etc.

Puri is also famous for making artifacts out of shells and oysters as it is situated near beachside.

Lord Jagannath Temple Of Puri

The Jagannath Temple of Puri is a sacred Hindu temple dedicated to Lord

Jagannath.

The temple is an important pilgrim destination and a part of Char Dham

yatra for Hindus.

The temple is also famous for the annual Rath Yatra or Chariot festival.

The Pancha Tirtha of Puri

As per Hinduism ritual, Pilgrims in Puri must visit the five sacred bodies and take bathe in them ritually.

The bathing ritual starts from Markandeya Tank situated in Markandeshwar Temple that is dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Then next is Indradyumana Tank that is located near the Gundicha Temple.

The next is Rohini Kunda is the sacred well located within the Jagannath Temple premises and then Swetaganga Tank

located to the south of Nilachal.

And the last spot is Mahodadhi or the sea (Bay Of Bengal) is considered a sacred bathing spot in the Swargadwar area.

Puri Beach

The beach is located on the eastern part of Bay of Bengal where countless devotees come to pay the homage to Lord

Jagannath.

The Puri beach is also famous for sand sculptures on contemporary events, mythological characters etc.

Festivals of Puri

The place is not only famous for Temples but also there are a lot of cultural and festive activities take place

throughout the year.

The Rath Yatra or Cart festival is the biggest festival from all of them. The other festivals are

:- Snana yatra :- Parswa Paribartan :- Dakhinayan yatra

:- Prarbana yatra :- Pusyavishek etc.

The other most important attraction is Puri Beach festival where you will find people from all over the world.

Shopping and Foods In Puri

The shopping stalls in Puri house shell rudrakshya (holy seeds), sandalwood beads, Ayurvedic cures and the

images of Lord Jagannath etc.

You can also buy religious maps, soap-stone, seashell, pattachitras, palm leaf paintings, horn work, woodcarvings and solapith work etc. from government run emporiums or

shops.

There you will find a variety of seashell and oyster artifacts that attracts everyone on the sea bank so shop wisely.
