Waste Minimization and Lean
• Saft America Inc. is dedicated to creating little or no waste
• All waste streams are collected for re-use or recycling
• The Saft World Class Program is a Continuous Improvement Program based on Lean and Six Sigma
• The Focus is on Performance, Process and People
16
Facilities and Energy Conservation
17
Controlled Manufacturing Environments
• Humidity: -30°C, < 1% Relative Humidity • Particles: ISO 6, < 1,000 particles cm³ • Temperature: ± 0.5 °F • Positive Pressure: > 0.1 Atmosphere
18
The Munters
• The Munters system saves up to 40% on energy versus conventional AHU systems. – Munters are used to dehumidify Dry-rooms
• The Munters earn LEED credits for green building construction
19
The HEPA Air Filter Systems
• HEPA Filter Systems – Satisfies certain standards of efficiency set by
the Department of Energy – Filters remove at least 99.97% of airborne
particles 0.3 micrometers in diameter
20
Air Pollution Controls
• Saft Air Scrubber – Takes 75 lbs. per day of
VOC emissions down to only .5 lbs. per day
– Keeps Saft within permitting standards
21
Solar Panels • The roof of the facility is covered with
4,340 solar panels – Will produce 1 Megawatt of energy – Peak efficiency of 97.6% – Equivalent to avoiding 48,600,000
lbs. of CO₂ or conserving 2.5 million gallons of gasoline annually
• Saft houses the largest rooftop solar system in Florida
22
Onsite Water
• Reclaim Water Irrigation System – Rain Water is collected in a 20,000 gallon tank,
filtered, treated and reused to flush toilets. – Condensate is collected in a storm water pond. – Process water is collected in storage tanks and sent
out for reprocessing • Saft’s mag-meter
– Measures the flow of process water – Keeps the flow within permitting standards
23
Composted and Commingled Recycling
• Saft America Inc. offers bins to separate recyclables in all office settings.
• All commingled wastes collected are set to a Materials Recovery Facility, where they are separated and recycled.
24
Saft’s Office Environment
• Motion Sensored Lighting – Conserves electricity – lights turn off after so many minutes of no movement.
• Solar Screens – Reduce the sunlight up to 60% – Reduce warming from the sun
• High Efficiency Toilets – Located in every bathroom – HETs possess a flush volume of 1.28 US gal.
25
High Efficiency Parking and Carpooling
• Saft America Inc. promotes high efficiency cars – Let employees park in
marked spaces with cars earning 40 green points or more
• Front row spaces for employees who chose to carpool
26
Bike Rack
• Bike racks contribute to LEED certification – Employees have a place to park bikes
27
Energy Conservation Plan
• Saft America Inc. has set up systems to conserve power and energy while the facility is not in use – Rotation of facility equipment
at off-peak hours – Optimizes use of highest
efficiency equipment
28
