Family Days out
There is plenty for families to enjoy in Merchant City; so drop off the
car in one of City Parking’s car parks and join us.
Morning It’s always good to get the kids up and out early. Go for breakfast
to Central Market and tuck into fresh juices, eggs benedict, omelet
and waffles. Afterwards, head to Merchant Square for Pizza Making Classes at Fanelli’s Restaurant. Glasgow Police Museum in
nearby Bell Street tells the dramatic history of the police force from
1800s and is great for children. Or check out Family Storytime at Scottish Youth Theatre: these popular interactive
storytelling adventures never fail to delight audiences. With their
creative juices flowing, finish the morning with a visit to Centre for Under 5’s in Parnie Street for some of the best craft ideas: puppet
making kits; paints and crafting ideas.
Lunch
Head to Royal Exchange Square
to Zizzi for lunch and something from
Kitty’s Gelato menu; or watch the
world go by in George Square with a takeaway burrito from Pinto or
sandwich and sushi from Wee Guy’s to enjoy al fresco!
Afternoon
Work off lunch and tire the kids out all afternoon in the great outdoors of Merchant City. Take the children back in time with a trip
to Provand’s Lordship – the oldest
house in Glasgow and have a walk around the
Medieval Gardens. Then head down High Street to Glasgow Green – the oldest public park in Glasgow which is also home to two great swing parks. If the weather’s not so great, children will love a bit of social history and Billy Connolly’s big banana boots in the People’s Palace.
Evening End your day with a meal in Merchant Square. Most venues are
family friendly and its indoor cobbled setting means that it’s great if it’s wet as the kids can have a wander while you relax and unwind. We
would recommend: Metropolitan; Arisaig and Mercado. If the little
ones have a palette for something spicy, take them along
to KoolBa; The Dhabba or Dakhin in Candleriggs for the very best in
Persian, North and South Indian cuisine.
Stay
Fraser Suites – hire one of their two bedroom apartments for a real
home from home for you and your family. Tuck the kids up in bed, browse through the DVD library and enjoy relaxing night in front of your favourite movie.
